|cntryboy232||Haha I felt the pain in mountains I felt like i had a 4 cyl glad I have a 6. I got an Lj so I can tow more it was not bad i hit some good bit of snow and still driving at 65 passing people.|

|TurnAndBurn86||I was doing some searching and a lot people on here say don't tow with a jeep. I understand why. That's crazy, and must have been nerve racking. I've pulled a small uhaul trailer behind a VW type II back in high school through Nebraska and I was white knuckle the whole way! Nice job, I'm envious.|

|cntryboy232||I just made a trip with my Lj towing a car behind it and weighing it down. Was about 4000 pounds of weight total with the car. I went from wi to sc and got 14.5 mpg. Did not have a problem just long trip. Handled well in snow towing. You will be fine in your tj.|

|TurnAndBurn86||The company is covering some of the initial move down there. This trip is just to get all my ducks in a row. If you are from Greenville, please shoot me a PM. I'd like to know which areas to look at as far as a place to live. Ill be working on the south side of town for Eberspaecher N/A. I've been with the company out of Illinois for awhile. Love the company, hate the state...|

Pay for most Jobs is criminally low so make sure your finances are ironed out.
Most apartment complexes and even home rentals have breed specific legislation. If you are a dog owner of what these douches consider a 'dangerous breed' could prove to be a major p.i.t.a. Let me know via PM or whatever any questions you have. Would be happy to assist!

Yup, can't carry guns in Illinois. One reason for the transfer. That and high taxes, corrupt state leaders, horrible city planning... Etc... Hopefully SC will be a better suit for my family. I have been there a few times and absolutely love it. I put in for my transfer over a year ago and finally got approved! Anyone from the Greenville/ upstate SC area? Any decent spots to wheel?
Anyway, I put the TJ on the highway for a little run. All should be good. No rattles, no wobble, no shimmies... Can't beat it, especially knowing I only paid $800 for it!!!

|02-14-2013 08:12 AM|
Oh, better study up on the IL gun laws if that's a factor for you.
|02-14-2013 06:45 AM|
|TurnAndBurn86||Yeah. With a name like KaiserJeep I hope you have an M35a2 or a 5 ton sitting around. I'm searching the intrawebs for hotels along the way and planning just to get it out of the way. It'll be fun. I do wish it was summer already I am dying to take the top off|

It's gonna be cold. I have camped in the cold and snow with a tent and an air mattress and a warm sleeping bag. I have also had to spend the night in the TJ on a trail without camping gear. It is possible to recline the passenger and driver seats and sleep quite comfortably in them. I wore a down parka with hood and covered my legs with a poncho, while my passenger had a jacket, knit cap, and my wool Army blanket.
If it was only one night, I would use a cheap hotel. The secret to finding a cheap room is to stop before 7PM. Get an early start and make all your miles before dark.

|TurnAndBurn86||Yeah I've made up my mind and I'm going to make the trip. A rental is not out of the question, or I could take the sonic but what fun is that? I have decent insurance, a good travel tool set, and the know how. The motor was rebuilt pan to throttle body at 115,000 miles. Previous owner said the oil drain plug came out, but he shut it down immediately. I did a running compression test, replaced the valve cover gasket, tune up, and synthetic oil and full fluid change. Anything I should really pay attention to, like all of the weak links on these? I know CJs with the 258 back in the day were indestructible... Trust me I've tried, but I am a Chrysler employee and I know how we pay attention to tolerances. Also, is she supposed to be geared that high when at 60-65 mph it cruises at 3,000+ rpm? She sounds like she's screaming at that point!!! As for sleeping in it, I might just get a hotel as it might still be really cold, but I am short and slender so I could sleep in the back seat of a miata|
|02-13-2013 03:34 PM|
|mpbannon60||For the sleeper just put the front seats forward and extend your platform so you have leg room and sleep corner to corner|
|02-13-2013 02:33 PM|
|cntryboy232||If you have stock tires I got about 19 mpg in my Lj. You will be fine in mountains just take it slow.|
|02-13-2013 02:30 PM|
|cntryboy232||I took my jeeps and cars from Wisconsin to Spartanburg,sc no problem. I'm actually going to be driving my jeep down that's going to be towing my car down. If you make sure you have it oil changed and make sure everything's good there won't be a problem.|
|02-13-2013 02:22 PM|
|Lbear||Candidly, there is no way to predict. You can bring tools but then there is the issue of parts and towing (AAA?). You don't say when the motor rebuild was. I think all the comments here are valid. If you decide to do it, best wishes for a safe and uneventful trip. Good luck!|

I just did a 1,000 mile trip this past weekend in my 127,000 mile TJ. No problems. Just drive it like it is a Jeep. If I had wanted to save gas and go fast I would have driven my SLK. The Jeep was comfortable, got 18.5 MPG and I had a blast!
