My uncle was an auto mechanic after WWII, he had his own shop and specialized in Jeeps and Buicks. My dad always got Jeeps from his brother. Over the years
he had a '50 3A, a 67 Commando, a '71 CJ5, and a number of J-trucks.
When I was 16 in 1970, I got a '59 Willys Wagon with a winch from my uncle. I had a blast in that Jeep!
So at that time, my uncle was a Jeep mechanic and had a dozen Jeeps, my dad had Jeeps, and even my stepdad had a CJ3B (and later a nice '74 CJ5 with a V8).
It was a family thing...
Some time in the early 80s I got my next Jeep, a '73 CJ5. I only had that a few years and didn't offroad it at all. Sold it to buy my wife a better car
Finding myself single again in 1990, I talked my dad out of the stock '71 CJ5 he had since '73. The tub was shot.
My oldest son moved in with me, and between us we had 7 Jeeps at one time. A couple XJs, a Scrambler, a flattie, some parts Jeeps, and the '71.
Over the next 16 years I modified and rebuilt the '71 into a respectable moderate wheeler.
I sold the CJ in 2007, and sold my DD S10 ZR2, to get a combo DD/moderate wheeler.
I bought a stock '05 LJ, and added some tires, lift & armor.
It's still my DD and occasional wheeler today.
I'm hoping to pick up another flatfender for a project rig in a couple years after I retire from industry.

I ended up in my Jeep 6 years ago while I WAS looking for anothr vehicle.
Was thinking of getting a new Dodge Charger or something some what along those lines. Was DEFINITELY looking for more of a muscle/sporty car, but wife kept telling me that wasn't a good idea. She knew I'd be getting myself in trouble.
So, I got the next best type muscle, the Jeep!!
Sold Jeep about 5 months ago now as I said screw the wife and bought myself a 1966 Plymouth Satellite. Didn't have to sell Jeep to get car, but didn't need 5 vehicles, at that time either! An old Mopar has ALWAYS been my dream vehicle!!
Also have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, 1965 Olds Cutlass that RARELY gets touched except for parades and special car shows, 2007 Ford Focus, strictly for the gas mileage, and a 2003 Ford Ranger.
Hmm? STILL have 5 vehicles!!

|Bobs Jeep||My grandfather had a 40's flatfender when I was real young, My cousin had a 70's CJ5 with the 304 and cherry bombs straight off the headers when I was a teenager. So I was hooked on Jeeps from the start. However I didn't get my first one until I got out of the Navy back in 90. Some sailor had a '84 CJ7 for sale in the autotrader. He said it was a good runner and no problems. It caught on fire the first week I had it from multiple stuff leaking on the exhaust pipes, Luckily I always carry a fire extinguisher and put it out and was heading up the road as the fire trucks were showing up. Ended up selling it when unidentified parts were banging around in the transmission. So later I ended up buying a brand new 2001 sport right off the showroom floor. A few Jeeps in between that and I now have a 2004 TJ and my wife drives a 2007 JKU.|

|SweetTeaDrinkerTJ98||I got mine as a gift from my parents on my birthday. I was driving a quad bike 25 miles back and forth to work and they were scared that I was gonna get stopped. They also use my insurance to piggy back whatever car they want to rent when they come to visit me which is just about $7000 cheaper. Needless to say I was pretty excited when they showed up to the farm and handed me the keys.|

A lady decided to make a left in front of my CRV while my girlfriend and I were going through a green light and still had the balls to blame it one me... Lol. Anyways countless dealerships later I found the tj of my dreams about 90 miles from home.
Got it with the lift and a few other goodies only 4,600 miles. The accident was a blessing in disguise.

|Noish||I worked for two years to pay debt off and save for a home loan. I finally got preapproved for a loan, my Nissan xterra got paid off and they declined my loan for the house in final approval because paying my xterra off dropped my credit 57 points. I don't know why, but that's what my agent said since that was the only difference. So that night at work I was super pissed and fuming and a buddy mentioned a Jeep so I jumped on craigslist and saw my now Sahara. After dealer came down 4k I was happy and now am an apartment dwelling jeeper with crappy gas mileage and messy hair. Used my down payment for 33s, a lift, full tune up and the like|

|MTJeepTJ||600$ for a TJ is the best deal i have ever heard of! Lucky Bastard!|

I drove a dodge neon since I turned sixteen which i loved working on. Well, after two heads and three transmissions the car just wasn't fun anymore. Engine lights were flashing and I didn't have the motivation to keep going with it.
My neighbor had a jeep sitting across the street that didn't move for three months so i decided to go down and see what was going on with it. He said he couldn't get it to start so he called a car buying place and they told him that they will give him 600 bucks to come and tow it away for him. I towed it up to my house that day to take a look at what was going on and to see if It was a good choice for me.
20 mins on a battery tender and it started right up. I sold my neon for 800 and then I went back down gave him 600 bucks for the jeep. I have put on a new battery, distributor and spark plugs and a new brake line( snapped when it was being towed).
The TJ is now my DD and I am completely in love with it. For Only spending 400 bucks on top of what i paid for it I think I got a good deal.

|wranglerx0232||I had a 2000 dodge dakota white 2wd crew cab super bald tires. It was passed all around my family and it would just be passed to the next kid after the next and I had to put work and money into it like belts an alternator a battery, the transmission was on its way out and I would take it mudding and it would be fun but it was small and 2wd finally I was looking at a jeep that was for sale it was an old cj7 that had a big lift on it and 35" tires and I've loved jeeps and wanted one and after talking to my dad we decided were tired of sinking money into the truck and it sucked in the Wisconsin winter and we looked for a jeep finally after months my dad sends me the page on Craig's list and I said I like it a 2002 wrangler in great condition good mileage it was a little expensive I said its good but expensive and then little did I know that my dad went down and got it when I was going to Ohio to go hunting over thanksgiving with family ad he stored it at my uncles house cleaned it up painted the flares and made it look pretty and gave it to me for Xmas I put 1000 down on it and am going to pay my parents back but it was the best thing I've ever gotten all my friends and everyone knows I love my jeep to death and arguably say I love my jeep more than my girlfriend of 2 1/2 years and no one cares to touch it at school even|

|whsoccerjc21||I wasn't even really looking for a car because I was only 19 and my parents had told me I had to wait a year and a half for them to buy one for me. I was at my uncles house at a barbeque and he rolls up in his 97 wrangler top down doors off and he just pulled onto the lawn. I was pretty impressed, then he tells me dad to go teach me to drive manual in it. I had never driven manual in my life and I had never driven a jeep lol. Anyways, fell in love somehow convinced my parents to buy one, found a great deal and here we are today, 2002 wrangler sport. Love that thing to death.|

Well for the last 2 decades I have been a Jeep guy, but only a few years of those as a Wrangler guy. Let me explain: My wife was driving my 4 door lifted Cherokee during a snow storm. It had been snowing for about a day so the roads were slick, but not too bad as the plows are prepared for the storms. She was coming down a street that came to a tee too fast for the road conditions and blew right through a stop sign. It just so happens at the same time another car was coming into the intersection and also could not stop. The Cherokee was t-boned right in the middle, because it was lifted the other car actually slid under the Jeep and both vehicles spun together. Then comes the wooden light pole in the intersection. The Jeep, now going sideways, hits this pole and has enough force to shear the pole off at ground level. So where does the pole fall? You guessed it on top of the Jeep. It messed up the unibody frame as you can imagine and neither front doors would open properly. The Jeep did its job and nobody got hurt thankfully. And then the next month I bought my TJ.

Have had or tried nearly every type/kind of vehicle as a "toy" from old school muscle cars, all kinds of motorcycles/ATV's, the last project being a 1992 Corvette - I wanted something different and have always wanted a Jeep... A CJ or Wrangler when I come across my 1998 Wrangler Sahara.
|02-16-2013 06:06 PM|
Growing up, I was always around trucks and one summer this guy was driving an awesome dark blue CJ up and down the main drag. I must've been about 10 or so (1976-77). I remember seeing that CJ without the top almost year round.
Fast forward to 2005, my wife gets a TJ and I have a truck but due to the gas crunch one has to go, she wanted a car so we sold the TJ (Doh!!). A couple years later our daughter bought a really badly abused YJ, it ran, but just barely. She gets married and leaves it with us. It became our dog's joyride Jeep, sadly it needed more repairs than I could afford or wanted to try to make. My daughter sells it.
1 month ago, my wife drives my Mazda3, says it's way better than her Accord. So, we sell her Accord and my old Chevy S-10. I found "MY" TJ, next to the TJ I originally wanted on a car lot and $9800 later she came home. I am not planning on ever going without a Jeep again!!

Something I've always wanted ! In 2003 I had a decent amount of $ to put down on a Jeep or Harley. I went with the 03 Harley Road King. Great bike and my wife and i enjoyed every minute with it. But, I still wanted a Jeep for all those years. This past summer I decided to put the Harley up for sale and buy a Jeep. After a few months of searching, I purchased my Jeep, lol, waiting to sell the Harley.
Like the bike, our Jeep is a weekend toy. I call the Jeep my four wheeled Harley.......With A.C at red lights....and I don't have to put my feet down!
I do wish they got the same gas mileage !!

|Boliver Kegnails||I used to be a faithful tacoma driver, great trucks and would still like to have one but anyways, all my wheelin buddies had jeeps and my best friend had an old 60's FJ. I used to make fun of the jeeps all the time then one day me and my friend drove down to go float the river and drove with the tops off his FJ. I know ots not a jeep but with the tops and diors off on a great spring day, well i was hooked, traided in the tacoma a few months later and well now always jave a wrangler in my driveway!|

I've always been intent on owning a practical, safe, modest and fuel efficient vehicle. I briefly looked into Wranglers (some older friends owned YJ's and I thought they were fun), but realized they weren't practical enough for my needs (not easy to fit all my massage equipment in the back). So, I bought a brand new 2010 Kia Soul + as my very first car (call me a late bloomer) back in, well, 2010.
Then I married this awesome guy who had always wanted a Wrangler but never had the chance to get in one. So we thought we'd get one a few years down the road, after we'd settled into our new life together. We'd start with a 97 or 98, nice and cheap, so we could pay with cash... But then we started test driving TJ's for fun. And spent our down time looking at Wranglers together online...
Then we spotted this 2006 LJ Rubi. Few hours later, we'd ditched my precious Soul and were driving our LJ home for $16k. I still miss my little Soul, but there's nothing else quite like a Wrangler. And seeing the joy on my husband's face every time he gets behind the wheel of the LJ is all the assurance I need that I made the right call.

My Story: My parents bought a 04 LJ in 2005 using my college fund. They kept telling me that when I get my license that I would get the jeep. Boy was I disappointed at the time. What kind of a guy drives a jeep at my age? I liked fast loud cars. What the hell is offroading? Started driving the jeep after getting my license, and still had the same mindset. My dad mentioned about a lift kit, but I denied. I didn't want them to spend that much money on the jeep for me.
Well, after thinking about it, I asked for the lift kit, and we got it. Installed it together in our garage, and boy the satisfaction from my first mod.
And that is how I got the bug... and my first jeep! And I can tell you now, I dont think I would have as much fun in a fast car, as Ive had from the jeep.
Every day I get out of the jeep, and look back at it like I got it yesterday.
Enjoy your jeeps people! Enjoy those jeeps!

|mudmagnet63||A buddy of mine loaned me $100 one nite at the bar. The next week his mom shows up and says Lonnie is in jail and needs his hundred bucks to help get him out. He had a 73 cj5 that his little brother had rolled the previous fall. I had tried to buy it several times with no luck. So I ask his mom about the jeep, she says she will ask him. The next day she shows up and says he needs $600 more to get out and he would take that for the jeep. That was in 87, I'm going to look at another one tomorrow. It will be my 5th one.|

|kodiakjoe1978||I've wanted one since the late 80's and 2.5 years ago I found a deal I couldn't pass up. I should've realized the deal was to good to be good. Got my 03 TJ with 48k on it and since I've had to replace the motor and a lot of other things I'm dealing with the tranny issues right now. But all the problems aside I wouldn't get rid of it and if it every gets totalled I'll buy another one and start over.|
