Update: I pulled sw and removed clock spring. With wheels straight and draglink disconnected, I turned sw one full turn counter clockwise. This put p arm pointing straight back. Then I centered cs and reinstalled it and sw assembly. Now draglink and tre have plenty of adjustment. Btw cs would have broke, it only had 1.5 turns clockwise. Took a couple pictures.
Pittman arm before. It now points straight back.
Sw is centered, draglink and tre bottomed out, and wheel turned right.
I was dreading this all day but it was simple. Took about an hour. I rented a sw puller from Autozone, found a good write-up online, and took my time

|All Terrain JK||Well after a lot of research I'm gonna set the p arm straight back and then rotate the sw to center with tires straight. Then center the clock spring. As far as I can tell it's the only way to be sure not to break cs. Wish I knew what happened though.|

Was the tie rod the same length as the one you replaced?
When i did my Pitman arm, i had the tires and steering wheel straight at the beginning. After replacing Pitman arm, i lengthened the drag link to get things lined up. Steering wheel was only off about 2o'clock so not bad.

Sounds like you need to adjust the other way, sw go from 4 position counter clockwise back to 12.
Then readjust toe in.

|All Terrain JK||Thanks for replies. That's the way mine is too. You can only put steering shaft on box shaft one way. Unless turned 360° which I didn't. Same with pittman arm.|

|Shark_13||Yah, the stock Pitman arm i put back onto mine had one larger spline so it could only go on one way.|

|Raif||I'm not sure if the TJ is the same way, I am only assuming it is because the linkage setup is nearly identical to the XJ. But my old XJ had a master spline so that it could only be put on one way.|

|andrew127||When you replaced the stering gear did you mark the splines to where they were in relation to the box? Because if you didnt and managed to install the new one slightly cw or ccw of the original position then it will put your steering wheel out of alignment when everything is back together and centered. I made this mistake when I replaced the input seal on my box. Might be worth checking|

Steering gear, Pittman arm, steering wheel problems
Here's what I had. Leaking steering gear, drop pittman arm, bad tie rod end on draglink.
Here's what I did. Centered tires, replaced steering gear, installed stock arm, replaced tie rod end. Did not move steering wheel from 12ish.
The problem is with wheels straight and pittman arm pointing straight back, steering wheel is at 4 o'clock or 2/3 counter clockwise from starting position. If I adjust draglink to moving sw clockwise it bottoms out at 8 o'clock and pa is at 1 o'clock. Shouldn't stock arm require dl to be longer than drop arm? If I adjust dl longer to go past 4 o'clock to 12 o'clock (which will be 1 full turn counter clockwise from start) will I be risking the clockspring? Any help appreciated
