I've installed the oil pump both ways many times and I'm leaning towards not installing it at the same time as the back case half.

If you push up on the tail shaft you can lean the pick-up tube towards the outside slightly, push the pump in place, move it up on the gear drive slightly and then with a thin flat blade screwdriver, you can push the pick up tube up into the hole in the oil pump and then get it seated all the way in.

Very little risk of damaging the pump that way.

It really helps those that have never been into a T-case when you stress that there is a big difference in snap ring pliers and lock ring pliers.

Lock rings don't have the holes in the ends to remove them like snap rings do.

reissigree Another thing, be careful on the bolts. Spray this one with PB blaster before you remove it. This particular bolt goes all the way through the Tcase and it had rust on the other side of it so when we pulled it through it snapped this off..

No we didn't do an alignment. My tj handles way better on road. I dont drive over 65 but it handles even better then it did with the fixed arms. I probably should get an alignment but for now it drives straight down the road, rear axle is square and re-centered and isn't as rough over bumps. Its something that cannot be rushed through.

It was all over the road prior, but not this bad. And I already did a front end alignment. I don't want to hijack this thread though! Sorry

When we put the rear upper control arms on, they were at different lengths. This is obviously the reason, I was just wondering if anyone had experience with a 4wheel alignment.

So this is something new, it wasn't "all over the road" prior to installing the SYE and rear arms? Did you disturb the front end at all?

Did you do a 4wheel alignment afterwards? My Jeep seems to be all over the road at 70+ MPH.
Then again I probably shouldn't be going 70+ MPH...

LiftedTj My cousin and i just installed an advanced adapter sye and tom woods driveshaft with rear adjustable upper and lower control arms and adj track bar. First sye we have installed ans the whole job took 9 hours. Sye probably took 3 hours. Pretty simple, lock and snap ring pliers are a must.

reissigree I did mine with a buddy this weekend. Shouldn't take any more than 3 hours if you have all of the tools. Make sure you have the correct snap ring pliers, they'll make all the difference. Still a pain to remove those rings though. Do it yourself!

IslandTJ For me it wasn't the snap rings that was difficult, it was the "c" shaped lock rings that was an unsuccessful hour long horror story. I gave up finally and went to Sears and bought their lock ring pliers, got home and easily removed them in less than 5 minutes. Conservatively, it's a day job for a limited skilled DIY'er like myself. I did mine while it was still in the Jeep, wasn't an issue for me.

RufusPumble Thanks for the feedback! I may go with the transfer case drop, but have not really decided yet... How long would you estimate the SYE / CV install took to complete?

ALjeep Not really that hard. If you can follow directions and have average mechanical skills, you can do it. The biggest problem I had was that snap ring. I had the pliars but it still drove me nuts. There are several videos like the one you posted to help you out. If you decide to do the TC drop, I got one set I'll sell ya for $20 plus shipping.

SYE Install - How Hard?

I have read a couple of threads about install of an SYE with a new CV shaft... and found this video: Jeep Wrangler TJ SYE Installation - YouTube

It looks really quite involved... Is this install something a person with average mechanical capability can handle? Or should I just do the TC drop until I can afford to have a shop do the SYE/CV install?

Just looking for some advice. The lift will be 4", so SYE or TC drop will be needed..
