I originally had KC Highlighters on my Windsheild and KC fogs on front bumper.
I recently switched them to led bars, 50 inch windsheild and 12 inch on bumper. The light output is crazy.

I don't agree with that. The light output from the 30-inch Rigid E-Series bar on my Jeep is almost identical to that of the 4 large HID lights on the front of my Tundra when we're talking distance...great illumination at least 1000 feet down the road...probably more. I paid substantially more for the 4 HID lights than I did for the LED bar.

|NFRs2000NYC||The only reason one would want lights on the roof is for long throw. Having said that, HIDs are still numero uno when it comes to distance. If you are doing it for show, LEDs are fine, but if you are really going to use the roof lights for what they were designed for, HIDs are still unmatched.|

|Binx||Yeah with the freezing. Last time we had a freezing mix the whole lens was iced over pretty bad and the light wasn't very useful.|

I have the 156 mm spots Plus you need to buy a wire harness and windshield mounts. I got a kc harness and the kc windshield mounts from Amazon. Total for everything was a little under 150$ but it looks as thougg they raised the price of the lights to 40 each...I paid 30 .

When you say freezing up, do you mean the fact that the LED doesn't produce enough heat to melt snow and ice off the lense, or that they actually failed to light up and work due to temperature?

Personally, I would never mount lights anywhere above the hood...unless you are doing it just for looks. Been there...done that...biggest mistake I ever made with my Scrambler...other than selling it.
I have the 30-inch Rigid light bar on my bumper. It puts out an incredible amount of light. However, if I had it to do over again, I would buy a 20-inch bar and a couple of Duallys or D2 lights to mount on each side of it. The peripheral lighting to the side is not as good as I would like it to be even though the bar is a combo spot/flood. I have 4 sizeable (and round) HID lights on the front of my Tundra, and the light from the Rigid bar is comparable, though not as aimable.

|Timberline||In my opinion, since the JK's have a bigger, beefier stance to them I don't really care for the look of the round KC style lights mounted to the base of the windshield. They just come across as looking too small for the bigger size of the vehicle. I do really like the look of light bars above the windshield on them as they add to the defined squared shaped of the JK windshield. So I'd go for the light bar mount!!|

|igivup||Hard to beat a set of HID Stryker 170's in my opinion. With the flexibility of being able to change the color, and adjust from spot to flood, and a near indestructible lens cover, coupled with the fact they are as bright as hell, they present a pretty good bang for your buck.|

|Binx||I put a rigid 10" combo led bar on my bumper to get more light where I'm going and I've used it a couple times but tonight put it to the real test. I can honestly say I'm not to impressed for the money. It looks good, buy I have cheapy 45 dollar ones from auto zone that actually throw the light better and don't freeze up. I would get some good lights and forgo the led. Dollar to dollar I don't think it was worth it in my case. YMMV.|

Didn't really think about it till this thread, but the round KCs look better. At least aesthetically speaking. And they were very good lights. However, the Rigid LEDs are quite a bit brighter, and that was ultimately why I put lights on windshield mounts in the first place.
Plus, they're smaller targets for flying rocks.
The downside, of course, is that they cost a lot more.
Pool or a pond...if you've ever seen Caddyshack.

|jkmohican||I have the old schools KC'S slimlites on my windshield mounts (not the bar, just a pair mounted on either side of the windshield). They are awsome, and with the edition of driving bulbs on my bumper soon, it will be espeacially awsome. They dont look half bad either i like them better than the LED's, because they have more of a "fit for jeep" look, and INSANLY bright. Did i mention their bright?|

You certainly don't see many JK's rocking light bars up high. I haven't seen many Jeeps at that. I like mine. I know it's not a JK but I would say it also depends on what you want to do. I end up in the desert and in the sand so there's not a lot of dense vegitation on trails to compete with and you can get up some good speed so being able to see where I'm going a long way off is important. I like it because when it's above my cab with the eurobeam lamps I get a long shot off in the distance but also enough light around my front tires to see what I'm doing. I have 4 HID Vision-X 55w up there so it's like carrying the sun around. Just my 2c.

led vs large round aux lights
Trying to make up my mind and would like to see some photos of both. Not sure if I want to rock a light bar over the windshield or not be definetly want windshield post lights and lights on a aev front bumper with the hoop. Led's look kinda funny cause they're so small but I may get used to them. I'm used the big round lamps like the old KC Daylighters
Not many people using roof mounted lights anymore. I guess thats old school?
