koorslitek0wb0y well i finally pulled the axles and the shift collar was fine. the PO told me it was bad so i took his word for it. noticed the inner axle thou had been chewed on . teeth were bad so i replaced it and got it all back together. took it out back put in 4 wheel and attempted the mighty fossil hill and nope no go. when i drove it back to the shop i felt it engage when turning in. i jacked it up spun right wheel and other spun so good it was in lol it came out dang it....... tomorrow the all mighty vacuum game. joy joy but im that much closer to having 4x4 working again. may even change springs lol

RednekYJ It's a pretty simple job, just a little time consuming.

1.Take of passenger side tire
2. remove caliper
3. Get out the impact gun and take of the 36mm nut holding the hub
4. Take off the 3 13mm 12point bolts on the knuckle
5. get a BFH or slide hammer and pull the hub/axle shaft
6. Install new shift collar
7. put it back together.

front axle tech??

the ring that engages the front on my jeep looks like a ozark hillbilly..... aint got teef.... i have another front axle still mounted to springs which would be faster swappin or pulling axle to replace ring. i have to get it done fast cause i have to leave for arkansas in a couple days { mother broke her hip} . is there a tech page on how to change this out . or is it as easy to do as looking knockin spindle loose at bjs and sliding off axle then pulling axle to get the ring out the backside. tips please...

also i ve tried posting in wanted section and it told me "get out" but im looking for backseat for my YJ
