|lasik1||I think the tires and wheels are a huge factor in the DD equation. My buddy's '12 Sahara with 14 speaker sound, chrome floor mats and a Lexus interior is totally obnoxious to drive on the highway due to driveline hum and buzz from the 35" mud tires he's running. I would rather drive my old roommates CJ7 on the road.|

Just be certain you drive an LJ (TJ Unlimited) before you make your final decision.
I've been using my 2005 LJ as a DD and occasional wheeler since 2007.
It's suits my needs perfectly.
Good luck !!

WOODWME: as was suggested, drive, drive, drive and drive some more......your perfect jeep will then become obvious.
i will offer this: i could not see a TJ as my sole vehicle, not as a home owner. but as a secondary/fun vehicle, you cannot beat the TJ.

In what way are TJs more rugged than JKs? I would bet you haven't driven a JK to claim that the ride style and road noise is anything like a "mom like" SUV. They are way off from an SUV-ride. They are noisy. They leak. The ride quality is pure jeep (yeah, your coffee will spill on a simple speed bump).
here's how i'd quantify "more rugged":
Are the engines more powerful?
Are the axles stronger?
Is the frame stronger?
Is the transmission stronger?
Is the interior capable of handling water?
What tires can you fit?
What do you think?
The TJ is a great jeep. I'd love to own one. I've always wanted to own one. Stock vs. stock, there really isn't any comparison.
Also, even a 2013 wrangler can be had in a 2 door, soft top, 6-speed manual, no power, half doors, no A/C. please. Power windows came out in 1940 man.

|00tj2||You might also want to look into the TJ unlimited. It has the extra cargo space but sometimes you can get them for under 14K. That way when you do use it you have the extra cargo room.|

|DetroitRodeo||I sold my JK unlimited for my TJ Unlimited Rubi. Disliked the JK. To much of a car. Of course CJ guys could say the same for the TJ|

|Gunner||I own a TJ rubi but if I had the dough I would be driving a 2013 unlimited rubi.|

While I do drive a TJ and am somewhat biased...if you plan on MODs or wheeling get the TJ......and not because the TJ is "better" or "there are more parts".
Speaking from my experience, when my TJ was "new" 8years ago, I had a loan and it was my only vehicle, I was afraid to really have fun and Mod or wheel it 'cause Mon it had to get me to work and I still owed on it.
If that doesn't apply get the JK and roll in style!!
FWIW I also have a '12 JK and a "GOOD CAR" for church.

The TJ is more rugged. I'd suggest a JK if u got used to the riding style and road noise of the more "mom like SUV" Not bagging on the Jk, just the technology for onroad driving is smoother. I like the TJ because I can actually do some of the work myself, I aint a huge fan of the newer technology, Looking under the hood of a JK scares me
All this talk makes me wonder when people will forget why people say "roll down the window" instead of "press the nice button so the window opens"

|00tj2||I think you need to decide what you want to do. In your post your mentioning two very different things, one for fun on weekends and one for a DD. figure out what you want and you decision will be a lot easier.|

what model jeep should I get? help, please
Ok, need some input and this seems like the best place to start. I am trying to decide which model jeep to purchase after years of being away from the brand ( had to give it up when I had a baby in favor of a more "mom- like" SUV). I learned to drive on a CJ, went to college in a YJ and now am trying to decide between a TJ for fun on weekends or a new unlimited JK as a sole vehicle. What do you guys think? Appreciate all input- thanks!
