Water is an incompressible fluid, when you try to compress it in an engine, the engine loses. Every time.
Hydrolocking once, shame on you; hydrolocking twice, shame on me; hydrolocking 3+ times, well, that's just dumb.

|Patrick H||So, what you're saying is, you've sucked water in through the intake and hydro-locked it. 3 times.|

|Blacksurt||It is probably white smoke which is steam, which is probably a cracked head or exhaust seat cracked. Did you overheat it and warp the head?|

|97 jeep||Its a 6cyl. Pulling the plugs and turning it over lets the water out, dry the plugs, put them back in, itll fire right up. i need a snorkle. and it also idles at like 1600rpm when i push in the clutch or have it in neutral. think it could be my o2 sensors? the check engine light goes off and on.|

|Mulvihill64||Who cares if it's blowing black smoke... It's cool when the pickups do it. You'll be the only jeep on the block that can roll coal. XD|

I think I smell a troll..
First off, user name says 97, title says 98..
Secondly, how in God's name can you be stupid enough or unlucky enough to hydro-lock the engine 3 times?
Third, how could you think pulling the plugs and trying to crank it would help?
Lastly, it's his first post..

|jeepers29||Yes, the engine keeps getting hydro locked!|

Is it the 4.0 or the 2.4l engine? Is this a jeep you just purchased or is this one you owned that just started doing this? Check to make sure the spark plugs are clean?
Im not much of a mechanic but my first two quesitons should help others when trying to help you.

98 jeep wrangler blowing black smoke from exhaust.
Ive hydrolocked the jeep 3 times. pulled the plugs, turned it over, put plugs back, started right up. ever since the last time i did it it runs terribly. it idles way down at a stop then revs up all of a sudden then goes back down. it randomly sputters and looses power when im taking off from a stop and sometimes does it when im just driving. It seems to run better if i keep it in a lower gear at higher rpms. and it blows black smoke from the tail pipe every once and a while. Any ideas what the major problem is?
