I just painted my dash, I took everything off that was "easy" to take off and masked the rest off. I used a high build primer meant for aluminum plastic plexiglass etc. it was 20 bucks a can but well worth it, one can did my dash and door panels. I used a low gloss black over that.
This is what Krylon says about surface prep.
When working with plastic
For old plastic, use an ammonia-based cleaner and wipe down to clean surface. If the plastic is new, wipe down with paint thinner for best results. Lightly sand glossy surface if previously painted and remove dust with a tack cloth. When dry, apply Krylon® Fusion for Plastic according to the directions on the can.

|bsandbothe||I have used vinyl paint a few times it works fairly well, on removing youre dash for a better paint job, remove youre defrost cover at the top there is screws for the left, center, and right side, open doors all the way (undo the straps makes it easier) then take off youre side speaker covers, for the right side remove your glove compartment first their should be 6 screws 4 on top (2 where the dash locks on to) and 2 underneath. The center section is 2 at the top gently pull it is cliped in at the bottom. The steering column is a couple of screws for the bottom and the top. Hope this helps and if you use the upholstery paint make sure to clean and remove all dust|

|krazy_leggz15||I was thinking of doing that before but thought it would be better to take it apart and paint it really good. Any advice? And is that vinyl paint any good?|
