missjeep Chrysler will not step up and recall and pay back all the money spent by jeep owners that have the Death wobble unless enough people call in to report it and ask for a recall and reimbursement of money spent to dignose and fix a problem that Chrysler and all their mechanics are already aware of . Please call 1-800-992-1997 Chrsler Customer Service and report you incident. Please call the NHTSA and report your incident.1-800424-9153.....Thankyou I thought I was going to die with my 10 year old son when it happened to me on the Highway going 65mph in the fast lane. Not cool that Chrysler knows and are doing absolutely nothing ..This is a recall issue and they are making a fortune off all their Jeep lovers instead of taking care of us. We need to do something. George W I have a 2005 TJ, 4.0L, auto tranny, D-44 rear with 3.73"s in it and ravin 15"X8 wheels with stock 30X9,50"s on them.. Before my 2 1/2" lift I had no hint of Death wobble. I installed Rancho 2 1/2" coils all the way around, OME shocks N66 & N67 front and rear and I installed a rear OME track bar relocation bracket.. I too have found I have D?W over bad roads doing 50 or better.. Mine only comes out every now and again but it is violent and gets progressively worse if I don't slow right down to nothing.. I checked all front end components and found all to be free of wear and tight.. No play in anything at all.. I'm ready to un-install my lift right now today to have my safety and reliability back.. But I see you corrected your death wobble with re adjusting your CASTER how is that done on a Jeep? Please explain.. I did re set my tow in to 1/8" after the lift install after I found I had death wobble when it was set to a full 1/4" total tow in.. Still with issues.. Today is the day I pull off the lift unless I get something to try.. Please let me know how you adjusted your Caster angle on the jeep.. Thank you!! George

The next few days, I searched the internet as many of you have I’m sure. After reading all the posts available, I started inspecting my jeeps front end. After 2 days of intense scrutiny of all the components, I came to the conclusion, nothing was worn, loose or broken. What the hell???

I decided to purchase a magnetic base angle gauge ($5.00). I used it to check the angle of my CASTER and found it was over 3 degrees above spec. (top ball joint farther back than lower ball joint total of almost 11 degrees from zero). I ended up re-setting my CASTER back to 7 degrees and re-set my toe again to 1/8". Guess what? my wobble went away. Over the next few weeks, I put about 700 miles on it with everything in place as it was with the wobble. I even drove the same stretch of highway 80 several times to make sure the wobble was gone. I felt confident the disease was cured, so then I bought my new tires and rims. Now with an additional 600 miles on the new tires, I know I beat it.

I’m not trying to say that all of you with Death Wobble (or what you think is DW) can decrease your CASTER and fix all your woes… What I am saying is it DID fix mine.

I know that some of you will not believe this, but if you think about how a shopping cart with a bent caster wheel reacts when pushed forward, our DW does virtually the same thing. Think about how CASTER angle works, if you had lets say 45 degrees of positive Caster, your wheels would probably wobble at 10 MPH just by going over small pebbles. Anyhow, if anyone has questions, don’t hesitate to ask. For those of you skeptics, keep spending money on parts instead of thinking outside the box. I fixed my DW for about $10.00, how much have you spent trying to fix yours?

Why can't man run as fast as a cheetah??? Why can't an elephant jump like a kangaroo???
All I can say is the shape/design of a dragster is obviously different of that of a boxy little jeep (not to mention the type of steering and suspension used on both is TOTALLY different as well).

Honestly not trying to sound rude, but how about taking a geometry class and maybe your answer regarding dragsters will come to light.

Over 3500 miles since my repair, and DW still gone.

Jerry Bransford Two things... Jeeps with lifts don't tolerate imperfectly balanced tires. It's very likely who balanced your tires settled for "good enough" which on the TJ, it's not good enough unless they are perfectly balanced. Imperfectly balanced tires can be the sole triggering event that causes DW to start.

If everything else is perfect, the front-end will cancel out the DW triggered by imperfectly balanced tires, dip or bump in the road, etc. But anything that is loose can allow the DW to then fully develop. I would insure the passenger-side mounting bolt for the trackbar is TIGHT! And if the mounting hole it is in is even slightly wallowed out from the bolt not being tight, that just adds to the problem. I would use a torque wrench to make sure that bolt is tightened to 45 ft-lbs. And better yet, I would replace that particular bolt with a hardened Grade 10.9 (metric) replacement bolt and then tighten the snot out of it... like to 65 ft-lbs. or so. That bolt that holds the trackbar still causes DW problems if it's not tight.

If insuring the tires are PERFECTLY balanced and the trackbar is TIGHT doesn't cure the DW, there are more things to try after those.

For us mutants that are willing to think outside the box is it possible to put up some pics or detailed diagrams to guide us? I have a 2003 tj with a 2" lift suffering from the same problem?

Oh.. and before anyone asks...
NO, I did not replace my steering stabilizer, shock, dampener or whatever you want to call it.
As long as your alignment is set up right, there is NO NEED for one.
No other parts were replaced or tightened. Al I did was re-set the CASTER back to about +7 degrees.

This vehicle is my everyday driver, and I didnít feel I needed a monster truck so I decided to go with 30-31" tires instead of the 27" that came on my TJ. To accommodate the larger tires, I was going to need to get a couple of inches more clearance for the tires. I ended up installing a set of 2 inch coil spring spacers to lift my ride height slightly.
