It is Wednesday March 13 7:30pm at Lucas Jeep. Will also be meeting at 6:00pm at the Sonic down the road there on 38. I've done the 8.8 swap on my TJ before, but that was after all the brackets were welded on and it was just bolting it in then.

srad600 Oh yeah man, Im right down the Rd. Im on Chaucer Rd. Other side of the light right off larchmont. We should def run into eachother some time, that close. damn. lol.

RWD17 i'm right across from the larchmont swim club. I have a forrest green yj with black rims and black soft top. I'm sure i'll see you soon somewhere.

srad600 The regear is needed with any axel just to get your power back. The thing with the 8.8 is if you find one with 4.10s you dont have to regear right away to be able to use it. It match your front. Youll need it tho for power.

The 4cy comes with 4.10s which is higher then the 4.0 6s get to try and make up for the less power. When you add larger tires you need to regear higher to 4.88s or the like to try and make up for the power loss or else you wont be able to get out of your own way on 295.

What Im saying is regears are expensive, your talking any where form 1100 to 2k at most shops to do both front and rear. Doing that to a d35 then it blowing 6 months later would SUCK, so many ppl just spend a few hundred more and swap and regear the new axle.

Im tired and trying to make sense but its not working too well. Sorry man. lol

I live right out side the larchmont section, where in MTL are ya and what color is your YJ?

RWD17 Yeah I heard doing a regear isn't necessary with the 8.8. Its more about the stronger axle, then the gearing from what i've read. It's my DD so I'm just weighing out my options and making sure I make the right move with my mods. I may just go ahead with the lift and tires and look for a 8.8 to throw on there in the near future after.

srad600 Yeah see...theres the dilemma. The 4cl Jeeps are not power houses and its going to NEED a regear to like the highway at all with larger tires. Ive never owned one but that seams to be the facts. Then you come into the choices...regear the d35 (spending 1k or over on a rear that may not last you very long) or just swapping and regearing an axel that will last much longer.

RWD17 haha no pics up yet... I'm new to the forum. I did the same and I havn't seen you at least. I thought the same thing then everyone on here is telling me its gonna break, this and that. I just wanna be able to go on 295 if I want, without being a snail. 65 would be all i need and all i do now as is. I have 30's now and its fine. as far as I know everything is stock. just going to upgrade to 4" lift with 33x12.5x15 and inch shackles.

srad600 I was looking at your other thread(stalking to see if you had a pic to see if Ive seen you around)...if you honestly dont plan on off roading it and arent going to 35s or above you do not need to do that swap. I ran 35s on my D35 for over a year before it took a dump on me and if wasnt an axle that broke. The d35 is junk in comparison but if your going to only go up to 33s, with out lockers no wheeling etc...youll be fine. Maybe pick up a 8.8 or D44 if you find one and sit on it till if/when yours blows.

srad600 Thats awesome, Im also in MTL.

You do need a welder needed. Im not TOO versed in the swaps in a YJ...My friends and I have have TJs, JKs, XJs and MJs. I have some friends who weld but they are usually too busy to help and I end up paying them lol.

Ill look into it and let you know.

RWD17 I'm from Mt. Laurel(Burlington County)... and either one... If there is a welder needed then I would need a place to do it... I dont have that.

srad600 Your looking for a hand with it at your place or you need a place to do it? Where ya from?

Ford 8.8 swap in South Jersey

Hey South Jersey jeep riders. I'm looking for a reliable place to do my Ford 8.8 swap i'm getting for my 95 YJ. I have the tools to do the swap I just have never done a rear swap before so I would like to have someone knowledgeable around to help with it... I am willing to pay for the help, whether its food and beer or even cash if its really that tough. Hopefully someone out there can help out.
