I think I know what you're talking about...
I have the 430N (navigation) and when my wipers are on during the day my lights are automatic but the navigation turns into night.
^^ that is the brightest for automatic.
^^ turn it one click away from you (2 separate boxes (turn it into the 2nd to last one))
^^ then your navi/radio goes back to daytime even tho your headlights are still on.
I have a '13 I'm not sure before the '11 has the same switch

I have an issue related to this, so if anyone knows of the thread I could reference please let me know.
My headlights do no automatically come on with the wipers, but they will TURN OFF (when set to auto) when I turn the windshield wipers off. Even if its pitch black dark outside.
It's on its second trip to the dealer and I am starting the Lemon Law procedure as we speak. Almost caused me to run off the road one night when it happened.
Anybody else experience this?

|Geoscene||My 2013 Rubicon with an EVIC allows me to set this option. I like having the lights come on with the wipers but I don't like the dash lights to dim so I rotate the dash dimmer to the solid rectangle which manually sets it to daylight setting as a previous poster mentined - best of both worlds.|

|UgaTyler||You can just go under the menu settings on the radio and change the night time settings to a brighter setting. It's easy!|

|flyinion||What year? My 2012 there is a dimmer ring for the dash lights that also has a position that turns on the interior lights. Right before that is a position that will put the dash lighting (radio/etc.) on daytime brightness. I don't know if the models with the auto headlights/wipers still have that ring though. I'd assume they do since they still need something to let you adjust the light levels and turn on the interior lights.|

I think its perfectly legal to disable it. It was a convenience. A convenience to help you remember to turn your lights on when the rain starts.
However, in your state, driving with wipers on without headlamps on could be illegal. And that you now have to do manually.

You guys are right and I must have missed it. Legal or not, I was able to disable it through the EVIC.

Check the OM, it's in there (under the EVIC section). Too bad this is not doable with the procal

That'd be the EVIC, and not all have that option.

|TomL||I know you can turn it off on my Wrangler. I have the connectivity group, and that gives me the menu button on the steering wheel. If you have it too, hit the menu button and scroll through the options on your dash. There should be an option for "headlights on with wipers." Set that to "no" and you're good to go.|

Guess the only fix would be figuring out how to prevent the interior lights from dimming.

That's the law here in South Carolina too. My 2010 doesn't have this feature however.
Have you tried turning up the dash backlighting so that it will be brighter when the lights come on? Its on the multifunction stalk. rotate it and see if you can get a good balance.

Auto headlights and wipers
This is a super minor annoyance, but google let me down so I figured I'd ask here.
My headlights are set to auto. When I turn on my windshield wipers, regardless of outside lighting, the headlights appear to come on. Not a problem, except this also results in the Jeep dimming all the dash and radio lights. Even though it's raining, it's still usually bright enough outside that I can longer see the now-dimmed radio display.
Any way to keep the wipers from automatically turning on the headlights, or better yet, just preventing the interior lights from auto-dimming?
