pcwolf The expensive lesson I learned is to pay close attention to what size bolt a particular trackbar uses to go through the frame-side mount. It is tapered for the stocker, and all adjustables I found call for drilling out the taper to fit a larger, straight bolt. THIS IS A ONE-WAY MOD. I *finally* settled on the Currie

RE1600 = 5/8"
JKS216 = 9/16"
TJS = 5/8"

Avoid all that stuff like the plague.

If you want an adjustable front track bar, get the Currie TJS or TJJ model from Savvy Off-Road. This would be installed after reinforcing the redrilled bracket as described in the above link.

I haven't been able to find much info on them but I've beenn looking at the metalcloak track bars just because they're cheap and I've seen good reports about the their other products.

Robm try to get a pic up tomorrow. Thanks for the input so far. Like i said 4 inch lift. has stock upper arms, just the springs, lower arms, shocks, and sway bar links have been replaced. Has front bumpstop extensions. The hole for axle mount for front trac bar was redrilled closer to driver side to keep axle centered. A ny suggestions for a good quality bar but still on the downlow as far as $$$? Considered going with a combo pack from skyjacker with stabilizer and trac bar for their 4inch lift. Also looked at Rusty's for parts but dont know anything about them.

yes, and it's been updated recently. see the last few pages.

basically, you need to push the axle to full bump and figure out how much bumpstop extension you need to keep stuff from smashing together.

99_tj Interesting thread. I don't thhink i'll be able to read all 100 pages, but, i just got in the mail a kit from DPG that came with adjustable JKS track bars.

Any issuses with the new model? (the thread was started in 2009)

the track bar is responsible for centering the axle side to side. it doesn't have much to do with ride. Handling, yes, depending what we're talking about.

The thing about adjustable track bars, especially with low lifts, is you can run into clearance issues with the diff and tie-rod. Here's a thread outlining the problems.

Definitely agree here. Over 2.5" you can some times get away with it, but you're really only buying time. You may think it drives fine now, but once you get a QUALITY trackbar in place, you'll wonder how you survived without it.

PStov98TJ For smaller lifts (2.5" or less) you can get away without it. But it gives me peace of mind. But anything over that definitely a necessity in my opinion. I wouldn't run without one.

99_tj I wa told that once you put a lift on, the best route is adj trackbars. Being as your angles have changed, and to improve ride and handling.

True at all?

PStov98TJ Post a pic of how your front end is set up so far as Unlimited said. That will help us diagnose your problem better.
And in my opinion, it's always good to upgrade if you're gonna replace it anyway.

Robm Yeah I figured to go ahead and replace anyway. But this is my first venture into jeeps and coil springs and track bars . I have dealt mostly with leaf springs in my previous vehicle projects mainly older Toyota trucks thought jeep would be something different to mess with. So far I love it . Just trying to get some feedback on OE verse aftermarket. Is the difference and necessity that much?

PStov98TJ I'd just go ahead and replace it and the hard ware. The movement could be because of a wallowed out hole on the axle side mount. But just think, your track bar is almost 10 years old. Can't hurt to spend a little extra on a new part. It's very important. If it breaks, your steering ability goes to about zero.
I know from personal experience. Bolt broke going down the road. Heard it hit, and then luckily got off the road before something very bad happened.

stock track bar versus adjustable track bar

New member here jusst looking for opinions and info. I have a '04 wrangler X with a 4inch skyjacker lift on it. Have slight play in front trac bar bushing at axle when turning steer wheel when sitting still. Trac bar is original. Dont do any hardcore offroading just some occasional trailride. Can i get away with going back OE or should i go ahead and spend the extra $$ and go adjustable? I use to have a bad shake at around 45mph but has eventually gone away on its own. Have also ate my tires up on the outside half (both fronts) Getting new tires and want to replace what needs or possibly needs replaced before getting them. Also plan to replace stock steer damper.
