Preciado Issue resolved! Replaced rear pos unit and bearings ($500.00 in parts) and issue resolved.

Preciado Anyone have experience with rear clutches?

Preciado Here is the latest on my fix:
1. Checked muffler and muffler hanger to see if it is rubbing on anything (all looks good. I even bent the gas tank skid plate a bit to make sure) - Noise still exist.
2. Checked U-Joints and rear drive shaft for play (all looks good).

Took to mechanic friend and he said it sounds like clutches in the back. He said strange though that usually when clutches bind they make noise when turning. I only have the noise when turning and excellerating from a stop. He is looking at it today, so hopefully will get a verdict soon.

Trevor C 98tj Have someone sit in it in neutral or park and hold the pedal until it rattles,(if it does)

03ShaleGreenSahara I have a similar issue. My noise is more of a knock from the right rear of the Jeep. I found that the exhaust hanger at the tailpipe was hitting the gas tank shield. I still haven't figured out how to get rid of it. Until then I've placed a short length of fuel hose on the hanger where it hits the shield. The noise is still there but now it's muffled.

JRIEDY85 Catalytic converter. Mine rattled when it went bad.

UFOtestpilot I would look at shock mounts to see if they're broken/cracked, sway bar end links for same, front swaybar endlinks, ujoints, ball joints, etc.

I'm trying to track down a similar sounding noise in mine. It sounds like a bolt rolling in a pickup bed for a few rolls, but only on take off and only up to about 10-15 mph. If I ease into the takeoff up to about 10-15 then give it heavier gas it doesn't do it at all. I've got ball joints to replace up front that definitely need it, a broken link up front to remove/replace and then I'm out of ideas on mine. Good luck!

Preciado What can be done to rule out exhaust? It does not happen when I accelerate going straight. I can recreate when accelerating slowly or fast while turning left or right. It is almost a metal rattle.

Trevor C 98tj Could still be the exhaust, on mine it only does it at a certain rpm, and it's not hitting anything

Rattle when accelerating from a stop (2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport)

I have just started hearing a noise which sounds like it is coming from the back of my 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sport. It is a quick rattle sound coming from the back of the jeep when I accelerate from a stop while turning left or right. I have checked the exhaust to see if it is hitting the skid plate, but it appears to be tight. Any ideas?
