HSKR4X4 I haven't seen anyone do it

bhoth Has anyone tried putting HID bulbs in these headlights? If the reflector is better, it should work well right?

Thanks

ajeepvirgin Great write up. Was moving along until I think it hit a snag. Correct me if I am wrong but my grill won't come off due to winch and bumper, right? See picture. Thanks!

st1264 - Can you turn on your headlights and stock fogs?
Well, I'm 3.5 months too late in reading this, but the light color is pretty close. Stock fogs may be a touch more yellow, but they are very close. My KC Apollo fogs and KC H4 headlights are exactly the same color.

Not the best pic, but I can't seem to get a better one when it's dark outside and the only lighting is from my Jeep. You be the judge. Looks almost identical with the naked eye, with the camera there is a tiny bit of difference.

Was surprised too it went out so quick, hadn't touched it and it was well seated and plugged in when I took it out. Made sure to check all connections before removing the old bulb and everything was good. Oh well, will keep tabs on these new bulbs. Still like the upgrade!
I ran Silverstars in a previous Jeep and I thought they were garbage. Seemed brighter on dry pavement but the light disappeared in fog and rain. I concluded that the whiter light made me think they were brighter, but they were not. I ended up putting the stock bulbs back.

I think you ran into an anomaly... bulbs should never go out that soon. Let us know how the premium bulbs affect the output. Most swear by the Philips +80 bulbs as the best.

Strokerswild Nice writeup.

I've been pondering the KC lights and putting the Philips bulbs in them. From what I see here it's well worth the minimal expense versus other options.

Hahah! Hey now, the iPhone 5 light is damn bright!

I just don't want to have the lights mis-matched in color. I know the stock fogs stink, I am debating some lights for the front bumper as well. This seems like a perfect upgrade to the stock bulbs. I just want to keep it OEM looking!

Any chance to talk you into a night picture with the new headlights and fogs on?

KC 55w Fogs + KC H4 kit
Perfect! That really helps my decision. I didn't really like the other options out there. Thanks for the info!

HK_Runner Good option if the beam pattern is wider and brighter and also if the high beam has more reach. Do the light wiggle or is either one a bit loose under the retaining ring? That seems to be an issue for all the non-stock lamps.
08-13-2013 07:04 AM
hotrod6464 I just did this upgrade also. Big improvement over stock for the money. Especially the high beams.

HSKR4X4 You will like them.. I have zero complaints. I really like the h4 Silvania ZXE bulb upgrade if you like a whiter color on rd

unccescape @HSKR4X4 - Great write up! If you get a chance can you post a pic of the headlights during the day. I was wondering what the KC ones look like off compared to the stock ones. From what I can tell they look very similar. Maybe one pic from a small distance and one closer? Thanks in advance!

st1264 I just did this upgrade... well worth the $109 for a noticeable improvement in beam, brightness and pattern. With even better bulbs I'm sure the results could be even better.

My screws were T-15, not the T-20 as listed in the write-up.
06-20-2013 01:18 AM
HSKR4X4 Everyone would rather waste $400-$600 more just so they have that "look"
06-19-2013 12:24 AM
st1264 The KC's seem to be as bright as the IPF's, just with the stock color. I'm not a fan of the overly 'white' light as I find it's only beneficial on dry pavement and when there is any type of fog, rain or snow the stock color is superior (for me anyway).

Also the KC's have a better pattern and more illumination than the stock setup. Especially the brights... I can't believe how weak the brights are on the stock system. My friend who helped install my aux fogs couldn't believe how bad the stock lighting was on my JKU. He was in disbelief, due to it being a pretty expensive vehicle.

I'm considering buying the upgrade as it seems to be quite good. Great write-up... surprised I don't see many others with this cheap upgrade.

st1264 Thanks for the write-up. Think I'll try this in the near future...
