DTS A few more customer-submitted Poison Spyder Hood Louver photos:

Vanessa Cowling likes it dirty:

Thanks to Michael J. Fox (no, not THAT one) for this shot:

The folks at New Smyrna Jeep built this nice rig with a bunch of our parts, including the Hood Louver:

Here's one on "Ratchet", thanks to Thomas Bradshaw:

How about a couple of TJ ones, starting with this one from Kyle Szuman:

Thanks to Kelly Heiland for this one:

Here's one from Shane Smith:

Sicilian Inca Has anyone had any issues with rattling after it is installed. I'm assuming the multitude if screws around the edges keep it tight but you never know. I'm getting one soon so just wanted to see if anyone has any issues with it. I've seen some thin rubber pieces that go in between some after market parts and the body to keep it from damaging the body.

Eric Godsey of Bham-JK club, Helena, AL, sent us some photos of this interesting paint job he did with his Poison Spyder Hood Louver. According to Eric, "I found some heat sensitive paint that changes from black to clear at 86F, so I had to find a cool use for it. I’m going for a zombie build and have named the jeep “Hazard”, so...I primed it flat black to start with. I printed a decal of a biohazard symbol, cut it, applied and painted it white, color matched to my jeep. Peeled the stencil, then painted over it completely with the color changing black paint. This hides the white almost completely! Clear coated and mounted it. Once the engine heats it up past 86F, the black turns clear to show the biohazard symbol! Otherwise you have to look for it to see the outline." Very cool idea Eric! Eric's photos of the process:

Vinyl stencil applied:

Biohazard symbol painted white, stencil removed:

After applying the heat-sensitive paint, you can barely make out the symbol through it:

If, they do not offer the bolts in black does anyone know the size/shape etc?

Is the black a matte finish, semi-gloss, gloss or flat finish?

It would be nice to get the colour matched up with the original black paint on the Wrangler.

Lastly, I live in an area with 4 seasons. Will I see any additional wear and tear on the engine bay than if I kept the hood stock? Do you find a lot of dirt/debris/water damage....? Has anyone considered on lining the interior of the hood with some kind of mesh backing, which allows breathability and can withstand our environment?

Thanks in advance for your support!
They come with stainless steel bolts only. We have looked for a viable alternative in black and have not been able to find anything. Black oxide will not work, it rusts easily. Some people have painted their bolt heads. The powder coated hood louvers come with a semi-gloss black finish. We've never heard of any problems from water getting in through the louver. Sure it does get in there but it doesn't seem to cause any problems. All of the underhood electrical systems are weatherproofed from the factory anyhow, as it is expected that water will splash up there. Read back through this thread and our threads on the other forums, you'll find lots of testimony that rain water has not caused any problems.

We have never done a scientific test, all we have to go by is the anecdotal evidence reported by our customers and on our own rigs. The consenus is it helps a bit, seems to help reduce the engine coolant temps a little, and helps hot air move out of the engine bay. But I will say this: if you already have a cooling problem, this louver by itself will probably not solve it. It provides a measure of additional cooling effect, but it will not make up for a poorly performing radiator, coolant, water pump, improper engine tune, etc.

05unlimitededition Got the hood louver and trail gate. And I love it. Finish on the metal was a little rough. But I guess it's a good thing I'm in the Autobody industry. But over all I'm satisfied.

DTS Sorry there is no forum discount. Almost all of our customers are members of one or more of the forums we're on, so it would be kind of pointless.

Doesn't have to be perfectly straight, the louvers will cover it.

It was easy. Drew it out with template and sharpie then made the cuts with my harbor freight cutter.

DarthLEGO Question on the Powder Coat.... Is a glossy black or a satin/matte black? I am wondering if it will closely match my bumpers that I had coated here locally. Which are satin. And they won't do it for just $30.

Or if I should I just go the bare metal route and toss them more money.

DTS We will have a 2013-specific one available at some point, but I don't have a specific date for it. We do not normally do single-item installs. But some of our dealers do installs. Try So Cal Supertrucks in San Bernardino or Brothers 4X4 in Pomona.

Steffen1601 I'd love to have that hood louver. Is it available for a 2013 JK with two nozzles? Also, do you know someone who would install it in the Corona/Riverside, California area?
