Update here, Farrish was a pleasure to work with over the 5.5 weeks it took from order to pickup. They had a good price but matched the better priced offered by Koons. I worked with David R and he didn't mind me bugging him a couple times a week about where I was at in the build (did the VOTS hack as well so I only emailed him once when it hit KZ). Always responsive to emails and as a fellow jeep owner explained a few things before I drove off the lot.
I'd go back there in a second.

I got a great price from Koons, however it was like pulling teeth to get it. Initial email got a quick response from Tom, but the sales guy he passed me off to blew me off time and time again (5 calls or so) and only finally gave me a price when I said I was placing my order the following day.
Now I cut them a little slack because my 1st email was on 7/28 and I'm sure end of month comes before custom builds with way less profit, but when it spills 4-5 days into the new month....

They did have a silver sport S, but after their shenanigans I don't really want to give them another shot at my business and coming from a silver commuter car kinda wanted something different. White wasn't on my list of "will not buy" and I actually like it with the extra black top.
I don't have funds or needs (yet at least) for the Rubicon, and my max sticker price is realistically around $35K, which should get me out the door close to $32K
Is the suspension really any different on a Sahara as opposed to an Unlimited? I couldn't find a whole lot on this forum about it, but haven't searched hard yet. I do like the Sahara wheels a little better and more than likely will wear out whatever tires come with the new Jeep until buying new rims/tires.
More than likely I will build a '15 Sport S (or maybe Willys depending on what the new wheels look like) and am anxious to see what Tank looks like.

Had a pretty bad experience with Lindsay Jeep in Manassas this weekend. While I should've known if something sounds too good to be true it probably isn't what it seems. the "Lindsay Love It Price" got me to stop in on my way to Fair Oaks Chantilly to check out a SAhara.
Lindsay Love it: $29,593
What they mention in some teeny-tiny print is that this doesn't include destination, and then you have to qualify for every incentive/program out there to get it.
Long story short, the finance guy tried to bring out some fake invoice numbers, and when I called him out he didn't have an answer, then went back to his bosses and came back matching what I said saying "oh they didn't realize you had internet price". My invoice included $995 dest, his did not, but we finally ironed out a deal and I agreed. Then as we're signing papers he asks "did you want to finance that $2k deposit or write a check?" When the agreed upon price goes up $2K that's when I walk.

I was very happy with Koons. Both the sales person and the finance manager were both very good to work with. Neither rushed me or used any pressure. I went there for a specific vehicle, but I was treated great. When I went to finance I was presented with all my options. I'm a visual learner, so Jim lending me his computer screen to work through multiple options and look at my financing options was a huge help as well. It actually changed my mind about the deal I went with.
Anyways, can't recommend them enough!

I used to sell cars a long time ago. On new cars always ask to see the invoice. Note on the invoice you'll see "HB" or "holdback". That's extra money that all manufactures hide on the invoice to give the dealer a bit more profit. Ask for it.
Also, finance can hold upto 3 points on your apr legally. If you get hit with a 7% rate. Ask for 5%. If they say no then tell them you want to check at another dealership. They'll buckle.
People try to negotiate the cost of the "processing fee". They cant by law because it would open them up to lawsuits to the people they made pay for it even though that money goes straight to the owners pocket. Ask to deduct the price of the car for it.
Buy cars at the last week of the month. Better deals are to be had as the sales managers need to hit their goals. If they dont hit them, they get replaced with managers who can.
they will give you a price after you test drive:
eg: $34,000 + Taxes, Tags, processing fees and freight.
Even though the freight is built into the cost of the jeep (it says so in the window sticker) they will try to double dip on that cost for an additional profit.

zimm, don't look at MSRP. use these forums to find the invoice price and aim for at least 2% below that.

What's a good number to shoot for under MSRP when ordering a new rubicon unlimited or rubicon X? Its amazing that used 2012's are listed for $35,000+ around here. Rather just get a new on for a little more.
I'm military and can use the NFCU or USAA car buying service, but I doubt that's the best deal going.

no offense, because i do not know you and have probably not dealt with you, brown auto in cville is the absolute worst dealership i have ever dealt with ... period! and its not just me, their reputation precedes them. infamous i would say.
its why i ordered and bought from safford in fredericksburg. i have even taken it elsewhere for warranty repairs.

Keviper1 - I think you are hitting the main point: The sales associates and various "management" you work with are as much of a factor in a "decent dealership" as the name on the door.
I had a fantastic experience on my 3rd Wrangler through Dulles Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Leesburg. My salesperson was Martha Chicas for a custom order. I'm not sure I would have had as great of an experience had I not worked with her. I referred someone to the dealership and they reported having a HORRIBLE experience (I don't think they worked with Martha... I don't know).
My 2nd Wrangler was purchased from Farrish - I'm neutral on these guys. Got a decent deal. Don't think the salespeople were as knowledgeable as they could have been both for my 2nd purchase and my 3rd.
My 1st Wrangler was from Dulles Jeep 10 years ago.... it was used, I didn't know much about Wranglers, but I had a great experience.
I've also visited Tom @ Koons for the 2nd jeep. I would have purchased from them, but Koons wouldn't give me as good of a deal on my trade in I had at the time, so I went with Farrish. Tom knows his stuff. The only reason I didn't go to them for my 3rd Jeep was Martha beat everyone out on response time AND they are 5 mins from my house (vs 30+ mins to Koons). Had she not given me what I was looking for, Tom @ Koons was my next stop.
I also think Dealerships need to recognize the new business model they must have to deal with us internet types... In many cases all the dealers I've contacted that I WOULDN'T work with are using 90's style sales tactics that frankly just don't work when you have any level of knowledge about the product and the prices that are available via forums like this and other tools. That and being emotionally detached from the buying process.

It's funny how everyone can have such different experiences with the same dealers.
This is my breakdown.
Koons (Tom Ames) was outstanding, and really knows Wranglers, and he's a member of this forum.
Stafford - some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. I'm not joking, I actually had to call their 855 "customer service" number and tell them to stop calling and emailing me. I've heard good things about them, but something must have happened with me for whatever reason.
Pearson - I've purchased 2 cars from them, and I ended up going with them on the Wrangler I ordered. They are right down the street from me, and Doug Williams is a stand up guy, although he doesn't know a ton about Wranglers.
This is something I learned a long time ago when buying cars/trucks/jeeps etc. You need to do research, and understand whatever you're buying more than the person selling you the vehicle. It's sometimes really hard to find dealers that have sales guys that really know their stuff with Wranglers, but if you use forums like this is shouldn't be a problem.
All of this garbage being said, I'm sure 90% of being happy with a dealer is luck. It seems like I had a horrible experience with a group that several people are happy with, and maybe vice versa with Pearson on other people's ends. At the end of the day, if you are happy with your Jeep, that's all that matters!
