|river2c||If you're running stock control arms, you won't need to trim the pinch seam with 35" tires. If you have shorter than stock aftermarket lower control arms/drive shaft...maybe...depending on tire brand. Normally stepping up to 37s require trimming.|

Also, your sway bar link may not fit in the lower bracket properly to swing as needed (they may have drilled the hole for the bracket off a little). My link would not fit in the inside of the lower bracket without rubbing.
I've see pictures where some put the link in lower bracket on the outside and the upper on the inside. Iím not sure how that works out.
To do it properly I think you need spacers or wheels with the correct backspacing.

|frieed||Only with stock WIDTH tires, maybe and I think with 35s you need to trim the pinch seams and if a Rubicon, trim the stock sliders|

Sorry to hijack the thread, but getting a lift/wheels/tires -2/3 deposit made.. In two weeks.
If I can run stock wheels AND not need spacers (I.e tire under fenders and remain PA motor vehicle code compliant) I'd be saving money (which I'd spend on gussets and axles) and staying legal without bushwhackers..
35"s...stock wheels...2.5"lift...Inboard sway bar links...No spacers...think it'll work?

|frieed||When Teraflex installed my 2.5" coil lift they put the swaybar links inboard and nowhere close to rubbing.|

My main reason for asking about the spacers is just $$s. I saw that I could get the Teraflex lift for 2.5 inch for $500 but then realized I would need $200 worth of wheel spacers.

I just went through a discussion about this elsewhere - in the end I wrote to Teraflex. They confirmed that you need less backspacing with their 2.5" lift because the new swaybar links in the rear can (will?) rub the stock wheels. However, there are also some who have been using this lift with stock wheels without problems. So, officially, Teraflex says don't do it. However, it sounds like you can get away with it in some circumstances.
edit: picture in the link to the other thread really clarifies the problem.
Is reversing the links entirely without problems? Usually, it seems like one change leads to something else that needs to be changed, etc., etc. Not criticizing - just wondering and asking for opinions from experience. Thanks.

|joe002||Right, if you get sway bar links that are the correct length and put them in the stock position and the heads are the same size as stock then they will rub on stock wheels with a 2.5Ē lift. If you donít want them to rub you have to make some kind of change - mount them differently, get smaller links, get thinner links, get spacers, get the correct backspacing, etc.|

Here is the deal:
If your lift kit has extended rear swaybar links they will rub the tires if you run stock rims without spacers and mount the swaybar links in the factory position.
However, you can mount the swaybar links inboard and run factory rims without spacers.

|The_Chief||Correct... If you use stock wheels, or AEV's, which are stock backspaced, you don't need spacers... Brand of lift is irrelevant... more so, the brand of wheel.|

|whiteyjfm||If you used the stock wheels you will not need spacers. Me and my friend run the Teraflex 2,5" lift without spacers and have no problem. If you mount wider tires on the stock rims you will need spacers.|

If I recall correctly, the reason spacers are needed are because of the way the rear sway links bolts to the the rear sway bar.
The connection point rests comfortably within the empty space on the backside of your wheel--until you raise the frame 2.5", and it's suddenly very close to making contact with your rear tires.
So I don't think it's really brand specific so much as lots of folks just don't bother with the spacers and choose to cut it really close.

2.5 inch lift that does NOT require wheel spacers?
I've been reading through the various lift threads and it seems like all of the lifts require wheel spacers if you are sticking with stock wheels.
Some people think Teraflex kit might not need spacers, but some folks claim it does:
Anyone know of a 2.5 inch lift that really doesn't need spacers?
