Sell your jeep and joind NASIOC.com. Don't worry, we'll still let you on here, you can hang out with us when you'd like, but you'd be happier with a WRX and a rally lift.
Oh, and if they're anything like they used to be, watch out for the NASIOC guys, they're pretty quik to judge.

|4Jeepn||Change your gears, and keep stockish size tires should give it a bit more get up and go, 4.56's. Also you could add a turbo, or a supercharger.|

Thanks again to all who have contributed, even RatherBNmexico....I suppose I had that coming. To hulud44...no I am not a big offroader.....and anywhere in far North Queensland is good territory........especially with a cold beer in hand! Jerry, I am hearing you but boys will be boys. I just want it to go faster quicker......and no I am not turning Japanese or German. I love my Jeep......maybe I should drop in a V8?

The 4.0L engine is a very old OHV design that is a torque monster that is EXCELLENT for offroad use as the Jeep Wrangler was made for, you are trying to change it into something it is not. It is not a high rpm engine that will benefit much by anything inexpensive as you are considering. It will also not run as efficiently at a cooler temperature, I would not go to a colder thermostat at all.
For faster street performance, I believe you'd be happier with a Japanese or German import.

|hulud44||With stock everything, the first thing and probably most cost effective is a simple intake system. shouldn't run you any more than $65 US. minus shipping. Maybe an aluminum radiator, but that might start getting pricey. Do u do much off roading? I spent a good amount of time in Australia and had a good time destroying a hummer in the The Shoalwater Bay Training Area...|

Thanks for your replies. The car is running stock wheel and tyres (sorry I don't know their size and rating) and it is an Auto trans.
I want to build in some speed and performance for street work....not offroad. Fuel efficiency is not a concern. I can run it on 98 octane if the engine mapping can benefit from it.

how do I get more performance from my 2006 4.0ltr Wrangler
I have owner a Wrangler from new. It is not my daily drive but I do enjoy it all except for the fact that I can't believe how gutless it is....which is all the more surprising when you consider what the Japanese and Europeans can get out of engines of a comparable size. It feels like there is a speed and performance limiter attached to the engine.
So I am looking for suggestions for some cost effective and proven modifications for my car. Living in Australia I am going to have to ship the parts which costs serious money so I cannot make mistakes when choosing what to do.
From other forums I am thinking of adding a K&N Cold Air intake, changing the thermostat to get the engine to run at 90 degrees celsius and not the current 100 degrees , get headers (Borla?) and then run a 2.5 inch exhaust system with better cats and muffler. Lastly I will get a piggyback programable engine mapping system and get a tuner to modify the ignition timing, settings for higher octane fuel and another other tweaks to improve performance.
Any comments or help appreciated. Importantly, if I have overlooked something please let me know.
