New Guy - Still need to buy
So, I just sold my Cherokee today and am now at the point where I can fulfill my dream and get a Wrangler. I was holding out for a long time just because my 1994 Cherokee with 228k was running so well. If somebody would be kind enough to help me talk through my options, I would really appreciate any pointers as I try to decide what to buy.
First off, I live in Houston, which is about the flattest place in the country, so not much climbing, but they have some off-road places around here and I could see myself driving over small things and there is flooding here. I am trying to decide on a TJ vs. JK and also a cheaper model like Sport/X vs. an older Rubicon (on the same budget). A friend told me that the TJ would be a stronger 4.0 inline engine (same as my Cherokee) than the JKs. So, should I focus on the TJ or is the JK generally thought to be a strong engine too? I want to keep this thing forever and get 300k out of it.
Now, the Sport vs. Rubicon! I am not going to be putting 37s on this or anything. To be honest, I donít know if I would ever need the Dana44 here in Houston, but I would just really hate to regret it later and am a little torn. Do I plan on doing a ton of off-roading? No, I donít but it is something I might get into, who knows. If I purchase a Sport/X, would I regret it later? This will be my daily driver and so I would like reliability so getting a Rubicon would necessitate getting one that is older with more miles because I would be on the same budget as buying a Sport.
