|Apex28||Got my engine back from the machine shop. It was not bored out to 4.00 almost but not quite so I cannot use the LS3 heads and intake, so there goes deams of 500hp +. Here are some pictures of all the parts I have so far I have all the parts to put the bottom end together, except the cam. So I will be doing that soon. Pictures to follow.|

if you think im wrong on the flowing of the intake do a search on LS1tech or PT.net. one of the reasons its not on a car is cause of the cowl on the fbodys and the low clearance of the vettes hood. Dyno testing of the two intakes back to back dont lie...Also the MAF that is on the LS6 vette is same maf that is on a truck...both are 85mm
no need to start a pissing war, was trying to help you out
also by doing many logs of motor with the LS6 intake it starts to pull vacuum early in the rpms as it drops KPA fast when reving above 6k, the GMT800 intake holds better and the GMT900 intake keeps KPA up when all used on the same motor for testing.

I would like to involve everyone, most times I know exactly what I'm going to do and no one can sway me but this time everyone can help.
I can get my hands on a LS3 engine with a hole in the block like mine and now that my bore will be 4.00 I can use the LS3 heads, intake, and injectors. Its supposed to flow like mad. So give me a thumbs up icon if that sounds like a good idea or thubs down if not. Its only $600.00 and then I will not have to pay for head work. Its in your hands now.

This is straight from Wikipedia: The LS6 is a higher-output version of GM's LS1 engine and retains the same capacity. The initial 2001 LS6 produced 385 bhp (287 kW) and 385 lbf·ft (522 N·m), but the engine was modified for 2002 through 2004 to produce 405 bhp (302 kW) and 400 lbf·ft (540 N·m) of torque. The LS6 was originally only used in the high-performance C5 Corvette Z06 model, with the Cadillac CTS V-Series getting the 400 bhp (300 kW) engine later. The V-Series used the LS6 for two years before being replaced by the LS2 in 2006. For 2006, the Z06 replaced the LS6 with the new LS7. The LS6 shares its basic block architecture with the GM LS1 engine, but other changes were made to the design such as windows cast into the block between cylinders, improved main web strength and bay to bay breathing, an intake manifold and MAF-sensor with higher flow, a camshaft with higher lift and more duration, a higher compression ratio of 10.5:1, sodium filled valves, and a revised oiling system better suited to high lateral acceleration. LS6 intake manifolds were also used on all 2001–2002 LS1 engines. The casting number, located on the top rear edge of the block, is 12561168. Applications:
Your #'s are a little off and you forgot about the cam and I really dont think the valves are longer why would they even need to be longer? And only the exhaust valves are filled with sodium and if anyone out there thinks that those valves are making more power you can keep on thinking that and maybe they do a very small amount but one of the main reasons GM is using them is for engine harmonics to keep vibration and noise down. I know this only because I have been to GM training classes on engine building. They use sodium filled valves in even the Chevy Cruise and Malibu.

actually the difference in the LS6 vs the LS1 are the following..
the intake is difference depending on the yr
the heads are different the LS6 use a 243 casting and have longer valves which are sodium filled, the combustion chamber is smaller netting higher cr
the ls6 is 10.6 vs the ls1 being 10.1
the block has a minor difference to it [casting] some of the later yr fbodys had gotten a Ls6 block but you would need to run numbers to see what block you have
the better intake is the GMT800 intake, there is plenty of dyno sheets and data that show the GMT800 intake outflows and performs and makes more power up top...Now if you find a GMT900 intake that is 90mm it will out perform all others.

Well I was told when I bought my engine it was a LS6 but after more research I found that it was a LS1. But if you think about it a LS6 is just a LS1 with a better cam and some fancy valves and thats only on the exhaust valves. I'm running a LS1 intake and Im installing a cam that is better than a LS6 cam anyway and having some head work done I dont want to say what till it is done. I found a shop that say they Specialize in LS engines so we will see what happens. I will have it dynoed when I'm done I'm sure, just to get it tuned correctly and to see how well it does.
If you were wondering if the intake would fit after machining the heads it will, it will not be enough to make a difference in that regard.

I'm running 37 Toyo muds, and sticking with them till they wear out I may go to 36's after that. I do love my tires though.

Out with the old.
I got my front G2 Dana 44 ARB locker chromoly shafts all the good stuff and pictures are great so here are a few. ***Note*** if you are planning this you do have to shorten your driveshaft and you will need new u-joint u-bolts that did not come with my axle I found them on Amazon. When shortening my driveshaft they found my cv joint worn and rusty so I had to have to whole thing rebuilt $254.

Ok I sent my engine to the machine shop, they said that the rust in the cylinders so it had to be bored 20 over so I had to buy new pistons. I really hoped that just a light hone would do the job but it is what it is. But I took this opportunity to bump up the power slight dome on pistons and machine 20 off heads and I'll be at 11.1.
Oh and I bought a LS1 with more parts I needed, intake, manifolds, coils, throttle body, injectors. So I'm pretty close to having a full on ready to drop in engine at least as far as parts go. I'm going to be running a thumper cam and doing some head work also. Should be building the engine this month.

Here is where I put my air compressor. Its a great spot, there is a small tray under the brake booster. It would be where the ABS would be if you have ABS, most don't. Attachment 90788
I haven't mounted the switches yet, just have them hanging. They are wired though.

|Apex28||You can also see in 4th picture down the difference in axle shafts. When I pulled it out for the first time I couldn't help but look down at my shaft and smile. It's huge! Its as big as a 14 bolt or a 9 inch rear. Those shafts aren't going to break, if anything the ring gear and pinion would fail first.|

G2 Dana 44 35 Spline Chromoly shafts ARB air locker install
Here is a few pictures of my axle install. I'd like to say anyone thinking of going this route, it should be very easy and require few tools you should be able to do it in your driveway if you have a near stock Jeep or a Jeep that still has a 4 link set up in the rear. It was not so simple for me. I had to cut off the shock mounts off the old axle and the ones off the new axle weld the old mounts on to the new axle. I had to because the Fabtech lift I have has relocated 1/4 steel mounts for the rear shocks. If I were thinking I could have ordered the new axle with out the mounts.
Then I found my vent tube fitting broken and it holds down the brake lines. Oh and they dont have any in the state of Florida awesome!
Then when I go to put my new axle truss I had to buy from Fabtech to make the 44 work with my suspension I find that where the air line for the air locker comes out of the housing it is right in line with the truss, totally in the way. So I had to cut, grind, weld, dill, and paint the truss to make it work. It came out great though looks like it was made for it now.
I also had to reset my pinion angle. Maybe its just me happy to have it in there but I think it drives better than it ever did.

Ok I might as well have some fun with this. What are "1 Tons" even in huge diesel trucks with 1000 ft lbs of torque the are running factory axles and the are 3/4 ton pickups with "3/4 ton" axles. And as I stated before I am running a custom built to order for me G2 Dana 44 with chromoly 35 spline shafts. Those shafts just came out. They are so new only one locker will work with it, an ARB air locker. If you know anything about chromoly axles is that they can actually twist 360 deg. Before they think about breaking. If I were to buy a Dana 60 it would come with 35 spline shafts. You can go to G2 www.g2axle.com and check it out for yourself. Its like stuffing a 60 in a 44. The housings are not from a Jeep its all custom made. The housings are double wall thick. These things aren't even in the same class as your buddies Rubicon 44.
I didnt ask for anyone's help or opinions. This is a build thread. I am documenting my build for me and anyone else out there that would like to read. From here on out Monday morning quarterbacks keep it to yourself.
