mike25 well the good news is that the guy who installed everything at the shop is a mechanic on thhe side so i hired him to put in the alternator and check everything else should be done today
03-22-2013 01:43 PM
Motowithy I would test the connections to sub, amp, cap etc to make sure nothing is drawing power while the jeep is off. If a shop did the install I can't see them messing it up but you never know.

mike25 does anyone know anything about the swap like things ill need? i've read a good deal about it in the last 24 hours but i just want to cover all the bases. just a little backstory here- picked the jeep up from install tuesday drove it around started it 3 times-wednsday started it 5 times no problems - thursday started it 4 times in my driveway while detailing it thurday night went out to start it and it had no juice p.s. brand new interstate battery. i jumped it and let it idle for 40 minuetes and it still wouldnt start after that, jumped it again drove to autozone for a free alternator test and it was putting out 12.9 to 13.4 aparrantly it's supposed to be at 13.5 to 14.5. so this does sound like an alternator porblem right???
03-22-2013 10:49 AM
mike25 wellllll. it's gunna be a second for the pictures.... i should have heeded the warnings i've successfully overdrwan my alternator so now i have that problem to contend with. i think the stock alternator was weak because my headlights would dim in and out before the system so adding the system made it kick the bucket. i plan on getting a durango alternator it's a 160a instead of the 117a and i've heard its a direct bolt so thats what ill be going with. but ill take pictures today and post them today.

BreckenridgeYJ Glad to hear it! Looking forward to the pictures

mike25 guys great news everything is in and it sound FANTASTIC. i was so suprised with the sound truly. ill be taking pictures of the setup today and posting it on a new thread

Motowithy You can also get some polyfill from any art store and stuff the soundbar with it. Any high end speaker enclosure usually polyfill behind the speakers. I did my soundbar, dash speakers, skypod, and kick panels with the fill. Art and craft stores sell it to fill pillows and whatnot common in sleeping bags as well.

mike25 im going to start doing some before and after pics of the components. my last stuff comes in tomorrow then it's install time

mike25 Doesn't matter gennerally unless your pushing 2000 watts ur gunna use a 1f 25 f literally means 25,000 watts.... If u had that much bass your car would be doing jumping jacks
03-08-2013 07:54 PM
Motowithy Sorry the one in the pic was one I used for my sisters old car.
03-08-2013 07:53 PM
Motowithy Yeah I used the 1F for my 12's. The one on the pic
03-08-2013 07:43 PM
mike25 If u need a 25 farad cap you have to have insane power one farad equals 1000 watts

Lucky you. Most of the times I've seen a cap added it did little to nothing. These were the big 1F ones, not the little one in the picture above. My friend put in a industrial 25F and that did the trick.
03-08-2013 06:54 PM
mike25 Thanks I was curious of the size, I just ordered up a 35 dollar power acoustik 1.2 farad cap
03-08-2013 05:55 PM
Motowithy A pic of a cheap one I got at Walmart some years ago. Just to give you an idea of size.
03-08-2013 05:47 PM
mike25 Oh. Yeah know I was thinking about one because I don't want my headlights flashing and stuff.
03-08-2013 05:30 PM
Motowithy Capacitor .... Basically stores extra voltage and will replenish from the battery for a more even flow to the subs. I had one when I was running the dual 12's in my last vehicle. Without the cap I could see the battery gauge drop on the cluster and lights would dim when subs hit hard. Had no issues after I installed the cap.
03-08-2013 05:24 PM
mike25 The jl is cooled with vents the wcc is not. And what do you mean cap
03-08-2013 05:12 PM
Motowithy I know a bunch of guys that run amps under the seat. Does the amp have any internal cooling, fan or anything otherwise it might overheat. Was thinking you might also wanna get a cap for the subs if it starts drawing too much power from the battery.

mike25 Great news I found a set of c2 s on another site for the same price (104.97 per set) so I got the 2 sets now just waiting for the speakers and amp to come in. Then install time! It helps if you have a slanted box because obviously the back seats slant I shaved three inches and still have 2.5 to 3 inches of airspace for the subs not to mention wiggle room. Does anyone know can I mount the two amps under the rear seat?

Nicely done!!! And good choice witness the c2's. focal makes amazing mids, but I don't care for their cheapest stuff at all. C2's sound better to me.

I can't wait to see pictures and hear what you think of the sound. Good work keeping that back seat!

mike25 dude my 12's fit perfect i shaved 3 inches off the back of the box and it fits perfect behind the rear seats and the tailgate with the speakers facing the seats.

Motowithy Curious to see how you mount the two 12's. I've got two of the alpine r12's in my basement. Been using a 10" bazooka tube in the jeep because of space and ease to remove.
03-07-2013 10:53 AM
mike25 well i ordered the jl audio c2's from sonicelectronix and there back ordered i payed 104 per set for 2 sets and the focals are 30 bucks more per set, the infinitys are 30 less per set and the type r's are 2 dollars less per set so in my mind the alpines look to be the most comparable plus the alpines use a silk dome tweeter just like the jl's where as the focals use a metal tweeter, metal tweeters can get harsh on the ears. i think im going to go with the alpines for the simple fact that their the easiest swap right now. does anyone know, do you add the rms pushed from the head unit plus the rms from the amp to equal final power rating or is it just the amp? because my amp pushes 70 watt and headunit pushes 22 wats
03-07-2013 10:41 AM
Motowithy I had the kappas and am running the alpine type s in my soundbar. Type r just has better woofer material. I honestly suggest the focal and if you do get them from amazon you can always send back if you don't like them.
03-07-2013 10:35 AM
mike25 they will be powerd by a jl audio amp that pushes 70 watt rms to each speaker
03-07-2013 10:34 AM
mike25 yeah ive heard focals are great im loking at focals or alpine type r's or infinti kappas
03-07-2013 10:28 AM
Motowithy Focals are outstanding for their mods and highs. I recently did the sky pod over the rear view mirror with 2 focal 4" speakers. I was blown away with the clarity considering it was a 4". Amazon ended up having them for the best price as well.
03-07-2013 09:28 AM
mike25 so the jl audio sepakers i wanted are backordered does anyone know of any good speakers not too bass heavy like alpine type r's because i will have subs for bass, i need something that is of high sound quality like jl audios. and NO but i wish ive been to a metallica concert, in contrast i saw motley crue not too long ago and they sounded horrible, then kiss came out and killed it.
