Could I see what that looks like?

NectarVibes no worth it. I got 4 $50 tickets in one month. NJ shore cops hate them and other cops just use it as an excuse to pull you over at night for a DUI check. I decided to not put them on my new Wrangler.

fan4524 A little clarification on the NJ tint laws:

You can tint any window to the rear of the drivers as dark as you want so long as you have both side mirrors in place.
You cannot tint either front side window to any degree without a medical exemption (see below).
The windshield can be tinted only down to the AS1 line (about 6" down from the top). The line is usually visible on the passenger side of the windshield. A medical exemption can also waive this.

Medical exemption can be granted only by DMV is West Trenton after meeting several stringent criteria. A doctors note is NOT a medical exemption. After meeting all the criteria, DMV will issue you a card with the allowable tint percentage for each window. Technically there are only 5 or 6 companies in the entire State that are allowed to install medical exemption tint.

Just so everyone understands, the NJ tint law is covered under NJSA 39:3-75 but other statutes can be applied (ex. 39:3-77, unapproved equipment, etc.). In addition, if you look up the law it will state "...rules promulgated by the Director of DMV..." Those rules are stated elsewhere in the administrative code. Thats where the specifics of what is allowed is written.

Another note; if you go through inspection with tinted windows YOU WILL PASS. Effective last year or so, DMV inspection is only for emissions. You will technically pass with plywood over the windows and three wheels. That doesnt mean that you cant, or wont, get a ticket.

A lot of cops see window tint as a way to get away with using a cell phone while driving. The ticket is actually written a lot for that reason.

Last thing that I know will annoy you more than anything else: Police cars are specifically exempt from the window tint law. Let the complaining begin.

:edit: from what i'm reading you can't have the front 2 windows tinted so i'm getting some conflicting information here i guess lol
wrong wrong wrong.....
Just cause the guy wears a badge, doesn't mean he actually knows the law...

State of New Jersey - Motor Vehicle Commission

State of New Jersey Tinting Laws:

By law you can apply any non reflective window film to your rear windows. Rear windows are the windows behind the driver and the front passenger. Non reflecitve films, such as mirror film, are not allowed by NJ State Laws.

By law you can not apply any window film to the front driver or front passeger windows unless you obtain a Medical Sun-Screening license from the NJ State Motor Vehicle Commisiion. For Medican Sun-Screening guidelines see below.

And

My daughter said she'll wait for another ticket before she let's me take the tint off.

I have tint on all of my windows im in bayonne and do a fair amount of traveling and never have had any issue with the cops for tints on any of my cars. Theres a place in bayonne called ultimate thats the only guy i have ever trusted especially when it came to my jeep. The owners name is danny great guy he gives lifetime warranty of the tints so if you get a bubble down the road he will re do it for free i highly
recommend him

Gjersey84 Some do and some don't I suppose. I have numerous friends in law enforcement so I'll go digging around for some more information over the next few days and post back.

2k13Wrangler Yeah everything I've read says front 2 windows and windshield cannot be tinted at all. I basically just want to know if people get hassled or not for having there front 2 tinted

Nottusyeroc I think as long as you don't do your driver window and passenger window it's fine. But if you do just put the windows down when your driving lol.

partstj I was in traffic court once when a guy with a ticket for tinted windows was there. The judge asked him if he removed the tint. He said no. The judge then told him to go outside, remove the tint, and return when he was done. I do not know the outcome as I left when I was done. It was too funny, he was walking out to his car talking to himself.

Tint in central nj

Does anyone have any suggestions for places to go? The closest 2 places to me are auto image and auto creations in Somerville nj. Also how have cops been with y'all? I know our two front windows can't be done but if I'm getting my hardtop done and have seen tons of tinted vehicles in nj. Will my balls get busted hard if I get the front done?
