T-BONE N BIXBY thanks guys. I appreciate the response...I've always changed oils in my vehicles, but this is my first Jeep and I wanted to make sure I wasn't smokin crack or something....What I really liked about it was I could access the filter by reaching down into the motor, instead of having to do it from underneath. I'm a chevy man, as my other vehicles are chevy...they require you to stay under the vehicle to change the filter.

Jerry Bransford Six quarts is exactly right, don't add any more. A good oil filter has a good non-leaky anti-drainback valve in it so it's probably just holding some of the oil up in the top of the engine as it should.

Sb5551 As long as you are in between the two holes on the dipstick that is the target area. When you go below the first hole you need to add oil.

Might even be safe to stay in to upper half of the area between the two holes. You don't need to be exactly at the second hole.

Easy Oil Change

Ok family, I executed my first oil change as a new Jeep owner...heard that my 6cyl took 6 quarts. Let it run for about 2-3 minutes after buttoning everything back up...let it set for about 5-10 minutes, and the oil isnt registering to the second hole on the dipstick. It's telling me I'm just a hair short.
Is this normal? Do I need to let it set longer before checking it? I'm running a Mopar filter. Is thier a bleed back valve on the filter keeping some of the oil from making it back to the pan?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
