Probably. Granted i have a TJ and haven't paid a lot of attention to JK issues, but i have never heard this about the Pentastars. But it sounds like an easy fix, and under warranty anyway.
I have had issues with damn near every vehicle I have owned, Silverado - electrical, Explorer - transmission, Fairlane - transmission & electrical, xterra - weak leaf springs that literally snapped in half cuz of a rough spot on the highway. I'll admit i was extremely pissed about that last one though, that thing got traded a few weeks later.
Everything has some kind of flaw from the factory it seems, it isn't just the JK.
I just except it as part of owning a vehicle. Ride out the warranty, and down the road if repairs start to cost too much, time to trade it in. But take care of it as far as servicing all the fluids and such go and they tend to not have as many problems.
Sometimes you get lucky, after i had that transmission rebuilt right and upgraded the electrical system on the Fairlane, I haven't had one problem out of it since 2001. And she is almost 45 years old now.
Bottom line though, just buy the vehicle you enjoy driving, they all have some kind of issue you will have to deal with eventually. Can't really blame any one manufacturer because they all put out some poor products from time to time.

|dadrunamok||Hmmm...join the forum. Post one time to rip on the manufacturer. Leave. Sounds like a troll to me.|

|nwapache||You're an idiot and should go buy an X5, that is all.|

|Jeepescape||Jeep should have recalled every one of those engines, and they didn't, with something like this they are inviting lawsuits.|

They will install A C head and it will be good as new.
This is why we have warranty to repair their screw ups.

First post and he wants to sue!!!! What a joke. No wonder America is bankrupt and the lawyers rich. Got nothing against lawyers, btw.
That is why you got a warrantee with your new Jeep, and on our 2012 it was 7/70000 on the power train.
If you are so unhappy with Jeep in general, go buy a FJ Cruiser.

I understand your frustration, but I don't think you fully understand what is wrong (cylinder HEAD as others have noted, not the engine itself). Maybe your dealer didn't explain it well, but you must understand they do not build the Jeep, they just service it....so don't kill the messenger!

|flyfish29||And the warranty is 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. So no worries. I love my 2012 JKU. 13,000 miles and driving like a dream!!|

|AverageJK||No problem with mine, it was only early 2012s. Underpowered compared to hemi I guess.|

|Z-TJ||Under powered have you ever drove a TJ? My 2013 rubi flies. Also I like my new Grand Chreokee. It sux about your head problem but gosh.|
|03-12-2013 11:05 PM|
|clull05rubi||And its not the cylinders its the heads|
|03-12-2013 11:04 PM|
|clull05rubi||Its not as bad as youre making it out to be. They are only having trouble with the driver side cylinder head and they dont just replace it with another one. They have a different cylinder head that fixes the problem. Once you get the fix you wont have to worry about it.|

the worthless Jeep Wrangler Pentastar Engine
I've been a Jeep owner all my life. I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, still going strong(276,000 miles). I also own a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4dr.
I noticed the MIL (malfunction indicator light) turn on the other day on my 2012 Wrangler. I immediately checked the Jeep Forum and started seeing a common theme about the Pentastar engine and cylinder replacements. I took my Wrangler to the Jeep Dealership and they confirmed my fears and told me that a cylinder head was going bad. My Wrangler has 18,000 miles on it. It is covered under warranty, but I'm thinking about the other cylinders and whether they will go bad before my 36,000 mile warranty expires.
I am so disgusted in Jeep for not recalling these engines. There are several reports of cylinders going bad on the Pentatstar engines on this website alone. I plan on joining a class action lawsuit to sue Jeep over this.
I've seen troubling posts on this website about assuming Jeep will honor a cylinder replacement after the warranty expires and I think this is nieve. All car companies honor are lawsuits. My dealership does not stand behind their products. They referred me to Chrysler to complain about this atrocious Pentastar engine.
Jeep product quality has suffered in recent years. Ugly Grand Cherokee body styles, the Jeep Commander fiasco, and now the underpowered and breakdown-prone Pentastar engine.
Jeep has lost a lifelong customer. This post is for those of you considering buying a Jeep Wrangler.
