I've gotten a bit further with my transition from crawler to overland. I got my full Roof tent setup with awning and awning extention, and finished up my Navigation device. For Nav I went with a Nexus 10 tablet running backcountry navigator pro. I download all my mapping and store it on the device for offline use. I used a Ram mount for the tablet but wasn't very happy with how shaky it was, so I quickly made a cheapo aluminum bracket for it to add a second point of attachment which helped things out tremendously.
I had a chance recently during the Set Them Free off-road event in Buena Vista, CO to do some wheeling with the jeep loaded completely with gear for days and the tent setup. And I really didn't feel more prone to going over. Pretty happy with the setup and it's performance, now I just need to continue improving my storage and load out setup.
Tomorrow I will get my front basket for my roof rack so I can bolt my recovery/toolbox up top. I have a wide low profile tough box that I think will fit their perfectly. The next step will be to build provisions to mount my folding table between the rack and the top of the jeep. That should completely clear out my cargo area.

Haven't updated for a while, I finally finished up with my Metal Cloaks. The install itself was straight forward just time consuming and a bit nerve racking. Biggest issues I ran into was other branded items interfering. I had to remove the rear portion of my Gobi rack for the Exoskins, then completely remove my GenRight sliders. They will take a small amount of trimming to match the MC gear but it doesn't seem like it'll take much. Once I get a chance to cut some metal before it's dark I'll attack that.
Also an interesting turn is that now with the added weight of the rack, fenders, and the tire carrier I am now putting a bit more weight on my RK Progressive springs which has softened my ride up.

It's been a good top for what I got it for, which is a quick and easy top to keep the elements and extreme sun off my head.
Highway speeds it's nice and secure, no crazy flapping or anything. As far as rain goes, I've been caught in numerous storms in it and the only problem is that if the rain settles on the top and starts to pool it can pour over the sides. This is usually only an issue when I've been parked or when leaving for the morning after a night of rain. Even with hard doors on it can still pour inside while getting all that rain off the top because it's not designed to seal. Driving through rain and you'll be nice and dry. My dash has never gotten wet with this top, and only the edges of my seat have gotten wet from clearing water off the top in the mornings.
I'm happy with it. It's really fast to get on, and has a nice permanent spot behind the rear seats so I've always got it.

|TheGibson||Have you had any issues with it? I am trying to figure out which summer top to buy. I think I have my wife talked into the QuadraTop Safari top combo with the back window / trunk cover, which looks to be about the same thing. Do you have any issues at highway speeds or with rain? I live in CO so there isn't much rain to deal with, but I would like to be able to protect the electronics and keep most of the water off the seats when I am out in the weather.|

A couple developments recently, I've decided to switch gears a bit and start pushing a little more towards the expedition realm. It'll be more of a hybrid of both a bare bones crawler, and a mobile camping platform. While not along the lines of a traditional expedition rig, I think it's still going to turn out pretty cool.
Things I've added recently;
ARB Hose kit (super convenient for bikes, emergency tire refill, air mattresses etc...)
Power Tank Roll Bar Brackets and Super Bracket for my 10lb tank. ( Tired of just strapping it in and taking up room)
Gen Right Tire Carrier. (Self explanatory lol, I needed a way to carry my spare other than in the tub)
Here is a pic of the tire carrier, not the best pics but I finished it late at night.
Ordered and waiting for arrival. Gobi Ranger roof rack, Metal Cloak Overlines front and rear with exoskin rear and flare extension for the front.
I'll be borrowing a friends Roof Top Tent for the summer as well to see how we like it. I'll get that on as soon as I get the Rack on. Can't wait, I think it's going to be pretty unique and awesome.
Now just need to decide on some round lights for my gobi rack. I'm thinking KC Daylighters with Smiley faces and everything. I've loved them since I was a kid.

Ha, I was wondering if that would come up. It was a birthday gift from my dad. He knew I wanted a winch and the X20 is a pretty good deal. No doubt Smitty has some crap out there that's for sure. But as far as winches go, I've been pulled by several and have never personally seen one fail. Maybe some day I can upgrade to a full on Comp winch and rig the smitty to the rear but for now at least I've got something.
I've got some stupid silly plans for it next fall but aside from a few odds and ends this should be about how it sits for the summer wheeling season.

Looks great, I just have one question. Why spend so much money on such a beefy build and cheap out on a Smittbuilt X20?
Heck I am regretting going with an M series warn winch and am looking to upgrade.

Update, finally installed my ARB, gears, Aussie locker, and RCVs. And decided to go ahead and ditch the fenders while I was at it. I've got a Smitty X20 sitting in my garage waiting to go on too, just waiting for my winch plate, and recovery gear to show up from Northridge.
I had to install spacers as well to push the wheels out, no more rubbing at full turn! I absolutely love the way it looks and performs right now.

Was having a tough time deciding on my axle situation. I decided I won't be happy until I am on 1 tons but I won't be doing that this summer. I went ahead and ordered RCVs for my thirty and Synergy Ball joints. I was skeptical to spend the money on the dirty 30, but I have no real desire to go to a 44 front so I will continue to drive on this axle until I am ready to go big. Parts should be here in two days.
And with that, for those with non rubis that intend to stay on 35s and are debating buying a 44. Save your money. A lot of Interweb rumors around saying your axle will grenade as soon as you go bigger than 33s. Just sleeve and gusset that sucker and get some good shafts. If you aren't driving like an ass on the skinny pedal you'll be fine.

Good news and bad news. Bad news is I have shoulder surgery and won't be able to drive my Jeep for a few Weeks since I'll be on pain killers. The good news is I'll have plenty of time to finally install all my parts that have been piling up! Gears, lockers, and diff covers.
