Check out the thread "Roll Bar Padding and Covers" and you'll see that there's others out there who don't believe in padding either. Guess they've hit their head too many times, haven't learned, but won't admit it.

tcossair Hey guys, the site below was mine and somewhat disappeared when geocities went away. If anyone is still interested, I've moved it to:

Jeep Changes By Year

I hope to update it with 2006 and eventually the JK. I've been out of the scene for awhile. ;-)

T-BONE N BIXBY If I was to get thicker padding for the roll bar, my safari top would have a harder time fitting around the bars that connect to the windshield. The velcro barely comes together now when I wrap it around the bar. I'm thinkin about cutting just those pads off.

BLACKTOOTHGRIN Nice.
I'll browse around the net and see if I can find a PDF for it!

daanbc Blacktoothgrin, I just finished reading a book by Robert Ackerson called "jeep wrangler". It describes all the changes that took place from 1987 till 2006 Year after year. Interior and exterior and prices they went for in showrooms.

BLACKTOOTHGRIN I'd actually like to know all the differences between the years,
so thanks for the link G-Pur.

G-Pur they should. I read a site that had the history of the TJ, along with all of the changes for each year. For 2003, it said only that 'energy absorbing foam was added to the roll bars'.

BLACKTOOTHGRIN I was interested in this as well.
I'm not sure if I'd buy the BT ones, they don't seem to be as thick as stock.
Maybe it'd be better to just hunt the junk yards.
I have a 98 Sahara. Will the stock 03-06 Pads fit mine as well?

Is it just the Pads that look bigger,
or is the actual bar underneath the Pads larger as too?

Yes they will fit. I heard they only added more padding for safety and nothing more. They just soften the impact of knocking your head around on really rough trails.

hulud44 Cut em off and hurculine em. they just hold water and get nasty after a few years...

I know the feeling. I really want to get the thicker pads from an 03 or higher for my 01. It makes such a visual difference.
