kyvtx1300 I suggest hooking the camera directly to the lockpick following the lockpick instructions. That makes it easy to test before running wires and mounting the camera and you know it will work, once you do run the wires to the back. I found I did not need to splice into any wires, just pulled the ground, hot and camera feed from the lockpick.

kolky Thanks guys....So if I run power from the lockpik will it know to automatically turn on when the car is in reverse. Does the ground cable still go to the brake light in that case?

jwilson2598 Yes, you need to run the power from your camera to the Lockpick harness. If you have it hooked to the backup lights it will only turn on when the Jeep is in reverse. The Lockpick power feed will power the camera when you turn it on to watch it while driving.

panthermark I forgot about this old thread.

As an update to mine. I had a feeling my Lockpick would be DOA just from the way it went down when I ordered it. The guy that he was out, but happened to have one sitting on his desk..that was the one with the broken tab. After some calls and emails, I got a new one in the mail. That one worked fine.

@Kolly, how are you running your power to your camera? I used one of the Lockpick power feeds (one that allows the camera to be turned on and off at any time) and it works fine.

kolky Hey guys, hate to revive a dead thread but I had a similar question to this.

I installed the LockPik V5 on my wife's JKUR. It is all working fine except I can't get the rear camera to work when driving forward. I just get a blank screen.

It would seem that I would need to run a separate power feed to the camera to get it to work in forward. I'm assuming it pulls power from the taillight connection when in reverse.

My question is did you have to run a separate 12v power line to the camera for viewing it in forward, and if so does the power also feed back into your reverse light when you turn it on when driving forward (making the reverse light come on)?

jwilson2598 Grey in the dash to should go to gray female on Lockpick. Grey male on Lockpick should go to radio. White should go to empty connector on radio.

I had the same thing happen to mine, and it turned out to be a bent pin in the harness. One of the pins I side the Lockpick harness got bent when I plugged it in. I straightened it out and then it worked fine. Several people have had something similar happen, so check them over good. Also make sure they are plugging all the way in, especially on the back of the radio, they fit tighter than the factory connector for some reason.

panthermark Well, it looks like I did end up blowing $200.
I got my V5 about a month ago from an online vendor. I finally tried installing it over the weekend....nothing. When I got it, I knew I should have been worried because one of the black tabs on the outside was broken. Anyway....my RBZ won't turn on when I hook it up. I emailed the vendor, and he said to go to Coastel Tech...nice.

I do have a question for ya'll that made it work. I only have the large grey connector coming from the CANbus into the back of the radio. The Lockpick wire harness has both the large grey connectors (male and female) and large white connectors (male and female). Are you hooking up grey to grey, along with hooking up the white male connector into the back of the HU? Or are you not hooking up white at all?

Any hints on getting this thing to work? I have slots 1&2 down for high speed.

Glad you got it working. I know the felling on drilling that bumper, I did it as part of the bumper install, so my expensive piece of steel wasnt fully installed before I was drilling a 28mm hoe in it.

triggerfin If it makes you guys feel any better, I think the installs on all of these are problematic. I have the Nav-TV version and it was a painful install - my dashboard and radio were in/out several times over several days to get it working and required multiple calls to the vendor. As with many of the add-ons - from lift kits to electronics - vendors seem to develop the install instructions as an after-thought and don't bother to have them tested by someone who has not performed the install before. You'd think they'd put a few hours into detailed, explicit instructions and get enjoy the huge return on that investment - happy customers and much less customer/technical support overhead. Pretty frustrating.

I've been reasonably happy with my nav-tv post install, but it has developed a problem - screen cuts out/becomes garbled in reverse now about 25% of the time (shift back in neutral/back to reverse to correct). Haven't tried to troubleshoot but no doubt will require another dash/system removal. I have a 2013 auto and it does permit me to manually turn on front and rear video, but it is a PITA - you have to turn the head unit off/on (not too fast, not too slow...) to make this happen - to the point that i never use that feature.

Hopefully Chrysler will wake up and make this a factory option in the future. Seems like a no-brainer for a vehicle with a big ole tire blocking the rear window.

NAMERIFSAXET1 had 3 bent pins. Now powers on so it's good to go for the cam. Had a slight conscious issue taking a hole saw to a brand new AEV bumper. That's some tough steel and chewed up the bit the camera came with in no time!!

jwilson2598 That's normal, the Wrangler doesn't have the white plug, as it's for cameras, DVD and other stuff only the Grand Cherokee, minivans, etc. have. You should have the following:

Factory gray plug -> lockpick harness -> grey plug on radio
Factory UConnect wiring -> middle 10 pin plug on radio (black I think)
Lockpick white Connector -> white plug on radio

The female white plug on the lockpick harness goes to nothing, I just tied mine out of the way.

As for the no power on, did you double check the connectors? When I first hooked mine up, it acted strange and about half the time wouldn't power on. Pulled it back apart and discovered a pin in the lockpick harness had gotten bent while plugging it in. Straightened it out, and hooked everything up again, making sure that the plugs were all seated fully. Worked like a charm and has been fine since.

V5 lock pic

Hola Compadres,

Just got one of these V5 lockpicks for my 2013 Sahara with a 430n. Just really wanted a reverse cam...

Using the instructions, it shows one large white connector that my jeep harness has no plug for. I plugged in all that fit and placed the dips in the proper location per the instructions and the nav unit would'nt power on.

I guess Carlos will get another call from me today. Last two calls were for lockpicks for the Vette and the Tahoe. Lost the lockpicks and sold the vehicles and I'm keeping the jeep reguardless but it would be better if this thing works.

Any word of wisdom welcome

Thanks, Money... still haven't heard from DDmods but I'm hoping it has to do with weather related delays.. seems a lot of us are having some rough weather. In the meantime, the CHR is just a plastic box and pile of wires next to my tool box.. $250 dollars I could have donated to a good cause...

JeepArn I've now spent many of hours working on this, plus at least 10 calls with Carlos, emails too. End result, it's now worse. Can't get it to work for anything and we've bypassed everything we could. At this point, I've pulled the CH550 completely out. Carlos feels that the v5 would work fine (it has all the new technology) as he's never heard of an issue with the v5. So when I asked if I could swap the 550 out for a v5 he said no since i didn't buy it from them. But said that DoubleD mods (which is who i bought it from) should swap it out for me. At this point, I've left Devan at DD an email and am waiting on a reply.
all in all, don't think i'd buy another lockpick.. sounds like there are other items out there which work much better.

JeepArn Talked with Carlos and he wants me to pull my harness and call him (will do this first of next week). Sounds like to fix the problem with the poor back up view, he's going to have me change a few wires which will correct the reverse issue BUT will eliminate the ability to see while in motion.
I'll update this once I make the change.

brycero To be clear, all of the functions work now, there was a problem in the harness where the two brown wires were reversed. Carlos had said that video in motion doesnt work in 2012-2013 wranglers, but that turned out to not be true. I'm not sure what his motivation was for saying that, but it isnt true. The only problem I have now is how dim the reverse camera is while the JK is in reverse compared to how it looks when you are driving forward.

jvmoney Did you have to do anything special to get it working? Do you have a manual or automatic transmission? I was just on the phone with the lead tech and my 2012 manual jku with 730 and lockpick still doesn't work. With switch 6 up, video, address entry, and backup camera works but then navigation stops working. He said he'll get with engineering to see if he can make any progress, so I'll keep this forum updated for those that may still have issues.

Then you should Direct this to the people who say it doesn't work, My question was to them. You replied to confirm that yours does, so shouldn't you reply to the ones that are having the problem?

I have a 2013 with 730N and Lockpick installed, all features are unlocked on mine. I have keyboard in motion, video in motion, and backup camera all turned on and working fine.

When you force camera on in normal mode, it's just on....But when in Reverse, there is a Signal being sent and received by unit that it's in reverse, maybe that is pulling too much or not enough power during this mode?

So Video in motion doesn't work with these model years. Then what is the point or need for the Lockpick, which was made to unlock video and nav keyboard. i know the 430 needs more from the lockpick to hack it to do something else that's simple.
But the 730 RER and RHR only need lockpick to unlock those 2 features, if it didn't unlock these 2 features, then they are ripping people off, as always, cause that harness they sell or include with lockpick is that, just a Harness, which can be made very cheaply, and better then that $179.00 one they have. Lockpick isn't needed to add the cameras, mic or anything in the VES section of MyGig.

jwilson2598 From other things I've read, this problems seems to happen to the CHRY550 unit, has something to do with how the unit handles sending camera and iPod video to the MyGig. I have not had any issues with camera picture quality on my V5 unit.

brycero panthermark, its actually quite cool, it is just got this one bug. it is still usable, just a bit annoying that the reverse camera is darker when in reverse than when you are driving forward. I'm keeping it for certain.
