yes, it will work in any JK manual transmission. i have it in my 2012 JKU Rubi manual, and it runs like a champ!

She won't use any of the other features that the aftermarket harnesses offer so I went to the dealer. First one says it's not possible. I am now going to another one on xmas eve with the instructions that were posted earlier in the thread. They are skeptical that it will work and I just want to have my ducks in a row when I go there on Wednesday.

She has the 430 RBZ Media Center. This wasn't originally in the Jeep, we put it in so she could have the back up feature...and have the PAC harness and a Camera from Amazon. If the instructions work with the dealer, when the Jeep is put in reverse we should have a black screen that says check surroundings, right? Am I missing anything?

Thanks in advance.

Josh
Correct. I just had my 430 done. At first they didn't understand what I wanted until I gave them the instructions. Once enabled you have the option to turn off the camera so the black screen doesn't show up and you get your regular screen.

I had them do it for free since I bought it brand new from them.

That's the route I went as well, so I could have the unlocked Nav and backup camera.

WaltA IMHO, part of the service dept wanting to charge for a full hour of labor, is to have a time cushion if something goes wrong. As I keep mentioning, these are mechanics not computer scientists doing the flash update. I am sure they worry that every once-in-a-while something will go horribly wrong.

I mean, would you be pleasant and happy if they handed your Jeep back to you completely "bricked"?
12-16-2014 12:16 PM
Bbannongmu $105 is definitely a rip off. My dealer charged $44 - 1/2 hour of shop time and proceeded to flash the unit while I watched the do it in about 5 minutes. It did take 2 guys. One to work the computer and the other to run out and plug the wireless starscan thingy into my Jeep. I was ok with $44 but $105 is crazy.

thanks! that's exactly what i was looking for. i love the look of your setup and have essentially the same Kenwood backup camera, so I wanted to try to dupe it as much as I could. this is such a great thread and mod, thanks to all!

I read this entire thread and I got lost with what wiring harness you used to connect to the 730. I see you sold one harness.

You have a clean setup.. I have the same hole and grommet in the tailgate on my 2013.

What are the results? Split screen work? What Kenwood camera did you use?

Thanks.

Hi Walt,

I was actually curious about the parts you used in the top of the homemade bracket that worked in concert with the Kenwood. Specifically the length/size spring bolt and the connecting piece that worked with both the spring bolt and bent down nicely and mated with the Kenwood bracket mount piece.

thanks!

Rt66er FYI: I originally had my camera wired to the brake light wire by mistake. I had removed the tail light assembly to check the reverse light wire color. Coming from the bulb socket, it is white with green stripe. So that's the wire I used. Wrong! Yesterday I once again pulled the tail light assembly and re-examined. The wire going to the bulb is white/green up to the plug. When it comes out of the plug, it's white with GREY STRIPE! How goofy is that? Anyway, inside the Jeep, the wire to tap into is the white/grey.

Dead center of the bumper just like most of them. With a black bumper it almost disappears.

Sounds like you tapped into the break light wire instead of the reverse light wire.

Because they are mechanics, not computer programmers.

tomba Thanks again Jeff! I called him after work and told him what was going on ..they're happy to do what I need done! Made the appointment for tomorrow.

I have a similar set up in my E350...I used the same camera as I have in my Jeep ( except I bought the 45 degree angled model) and love the picture quality. My Van sits up a bit higher than my Jeep ( van has a 4" lift)...was 100% easier to install in the van :P
