Cole Trickle Unscrew it and zip tie it up under the dash.

I'm a little weird about holes in my dash so I would probably order a new panel.

Thanks. I checked it out tonight, I saw the box. I appreciate your help!

To the OP; your little blinking box that looks like crap is because you didn't buy the alarm. Apparently there is something that plugs into the front when the alarm is sold to a customer, which sets it to 'customer' mode. I find a card in my glovebox describing this. If you don't buy it then they don't plug this part in, and you're left with just the blinking light.

Like Dusthol says, its probably easy to uninstall. If you crawl under there and look up you'll see a small box most likely strapped to the steering column. Removing that, and splicing the wires back would work. Still, you'd have to research to figure out exactly what you're doing, but its possible.

Dusthol, I paid for mine so I'll keep it, at least for now, but Im curious would this be difficult for a jeep owner to uninstall on their own?

Zed Maybe I'm the only one but I'd be SERIOUSLY PO'd the dealer screwed anything into a brand new vehicle they sold me.
03-21-2013 05:36 PM
legitposter If you didn't pay for it, and therefore they didn't activate anything, all you have is a blinking light. Still, that blinking light may deter a theft so if it doesnt annoy you then you might as well leave it..

Bbiscan21 What are the receiving ports in the front and what's the button for? Does it serve any purpose if I didn't buy anything extra?
03-21-2013 04:39 PM
Bbiscan21 Ya I confirmed with the dealer it's an alarm. They gave me a number of a company that they have install them....it was never offered to me when I bought it and it doesn't do anything....I can lock it with the fab and then unlock it with the key without the alarm going off...it's gone relatively unnoticed for the year and a half I've had it....don't want to pull it out and expose the screw holes. Any disadvantages to leaving it in?
03-21-2013 04:31 PM
Dusthol The " keys" that they sell are generic. They don't have a rolling code feature like alarms do. If ur friend has a "key" from the same dealer he can use it in your vehicle. That module is an anti start. It ties into the ignition wire and a couple of others ( wont say more on Internet). Where I worked we would put them in as part of the PDI.

I bought it, but I've always doubted its worth much. Since you have first hand experience can you tell me why one should never buy it?

On a new vehicle? If I was the OP I'd have them replace the panel at thier cost; dealer stickers are bad enough, drilling holes in my dash would cross the line.

Dick Blonov Might be a glass break detector. Clap you hands near it to see if it triggers.

Isn't the functionality you describe part of the factory security system? I've already done this on my JK by accident and set my alarm off, and I don't have any blinking doodads on the underside of my dash.
03-21-2013 10:48 AM
legitposter I have this too. It's a dealer security system. It's main function is, ON THE LOT, to open the windows when a thief tries to break one. This is to save money from having to replace so many windows.

When someone buys the vehicle the dealer usually offers them two choices:

1. Pay a couple hundred dollars and the dealer will activate 'consumer' mode in which the alarm basically becomes an impact sensor and sets everything off when someone tries to break a window, etc. It might have another function as well. It ties into your key fob and is activated/deactivated based on using your key fob. In fact if you lock the jeep with your fob then unlock it with your actual key in the keyhole then you'll set the alarm off.

2. Don't pay, and the dealer simply disables it. You need to request for them to remove it if you actually want it completely removed and not just disabled. Most people allow the dealer to keep it there because then you get a free blinking light that *might* deter someone later on.

Bbiscan21 Yep that's what I'm gonna do. Logical next step if no one knows what the heck it is. Ill let you guys know what they say, thanks.
03-21-2013 10:37 AM
4DoorCrush Take it back to the dealer and ask! Or give them a ring and ask
03-21-2013 10:36 AM
Bbiscan21 Yeah it's screwed in and there are wires running up in towards the steering column.

Heysus I really want to know what this is. I'm paranoid about crap like this.

There's a website called reddit and they have a whole section dedicated to finding out what stuff is. Take these pictures and post then over there in case no one here knows what it is.
