mcdull Add the picture of Sony XAV-601BT I didn't post last time.
With the new software update of ASWC-1, the VR, Phone and those 6 buttons on the back of the steering wheel are all working

Mattk11 I have the Pioneer AVH-8500 BHS and it fits and works great. At first I installed all the extra cables to run video and app radio with my iPhone 5 and after a week of messing with it I took the cables out and sold them. App radio was cumbersome at best but i kept the head unit simply for the removable screen. The standard iPhone connection without video is great for me. I was able to use an adapter from amazon to connect up the factory console mounted USB and can run video off a memory stick when I want to.

mcdull My head unit is Sony XAV-601BT. As long as you're not expecting to use Mirrorlink since only a few phones have that, I think it's a great unit.
It's one of very few double din with detachable face, better security for a convertible.
It's running Android (though you can't do anything else) so it shows up my Mp3 song with Unicode tags just fine (tried JVC and Pioneer, they didn't show Asian Unicode tags in some of my songs) 3D Menu is smooth, display quality is much better than another Pioneer AVH-6300BT I'm using.

I used the Axxess CHTO-013 with ASWC-1. Because the CHTO has front and back audio out, front and back fading is working fine.

The ASWC-1 steering wheel module cannot detect the VR and Phone buttons.
Want to confirm that's the way it is with people who're using PAC module? I think those buttons are hooked to the U-Connect only.

Will see if that works after installing my HU.
Finally got my HU installed.
With that USB adapter, I could reuse the stock USB connector in the center console. It took me some time to find out where the U-Connect module. I took out the whole U-Connect module and harness which seems not needed with aftermarket unit, the EVIC is working without it.
Seems there is no way to reuse stock microphone so I rewired the new microphone next to the stock.

Interesting info on the USB. I haven't pulled apart the center console to map it out. I have both USB leads from my HU in the glovebox currently.
You don't need to pull apart the center console.
I think this is the usb cable its connector that goes into the factory stereo, a standard mini-B USB.

I'm looking for how to wire the factory microphone to the standard 3.5mm microphone connector if you know any information.

For the USB, doesn't the factory cable from the center console has a USB mini-B male plug? A $1 USB adapter should allow you to connect the center console USB to your HU.

I just got a JVC KW-KX1 but have yet to find time to install it and also waiting for the rear camera and the usb adapter. Also need to borrow a Galaxy S3 to try the mirrorlink.

Metra also make one, I couldn't tell you how good or otherwise it is but the Scosche version I linked to fit perfectly first time with no need for trimming or grinding, as you can see from the picture of my install a few posts up.

Yes. Sort of. If you get a PAC or Metra Harness, and you add a SWI (Steering Wheel Integration) you retain the wheel buttons on the back. You do lose the phone button on the front but I re-mapped that to a different function for the HU. The HU itself is BT capable so you just re-pair your phone to the new HU.

I'm only guessing here because I don't have the connectivity package, but I would say probably not - as I understand it the Bluetooth capability of that package is a module that links into the factory radio, and if you don't have a factory radio you presumably won't get the screen prompts to follow the pairing process, even if it's still technically operational.

It isn't really a big issue though, a lot of modern stereos have integrated Bluetooth capabilities. Mine does despite being far from the most expensive unit on the market, as well as connecting the phone and muting the stereo for calls it also supports phonebook integration, voice commands, audio streaming etc.

woansleftpeg JVC KW-AV60BT. Like Dmactampa's Pioneer it is slightly unusual in that it's a double DIN unit with a removable faceplate; loads of features including Bluetooth, Sirius, Pandora, DVD playback, USB (in the glove box), support for back up camera etc. Currently available for less than $300 on Amazon (I paid $266).

Install was a breeze using the PAC RP4-CH11 harness to retain steering wheel controls and the Scosche dash kit; no modification of the dash is required. I see some people saying that they modified the metal bracket, but I just removed the whole thing. Seems to be fine although at some point in the future I might fabricate something to support the back end of the HU, but it isn't exactly a heavy unit.

Lynskey I also went with the Single DIn set up with a Pioneer DEH-P9400BH. I had a DD unit in my last vehicle and intended to re-use it. However I wanted a removable face and a cubby underneath to store my phone and wallet in.

At the time, this was the best Single DIN unit that Pioneer had. 3 sets of RCA pre-outs, 2 rear USB, 5-ban EQ, etc. And it worked with my existing Sirius tuner SC-10. Made life easy to plug and play with that.

Dmactampa I lovemy 8400. Clean screen, good response, and user friendly. I have an entire aftermarket setup after wasting about $1300 to rip out the infinity stuff and the kicker and fosgate speakers and amps I went with after the infinity. Now it's all JL and I'm very happy.
03-26-2013 06:31 AM
37Olivestreetbrews Just installed Alpine INE S920HD required me to modify the metal bracket that supports the stereo at the back, no biggie. Very happy with the sound quality and volume. Also used the KTP 445 power pack by Alpine to push power to the speakers.

OUTAGAS [QUOTE="unusedusername;3541091"]So it looks like most are running double DIN models now?

Single DIN on my 2011 JK and Just wanted to keep it simple.

JKUCRUSHMIKE Will these work on the infinity system, what's needed for the amp and steering wheel controls?
03-26-2013 02:33 AM
mcdull I have a 2012 JKU. Which dash kit did you guys use? I've read some kit will require trimming some might not.
03-24-2013 05:09 AM
mcdull Do these HU reuse the mic and USB port in the center storage included in Connectivity option?

This looks like a good list for me to start me research with.

lolpetewtf My brother has the AVH-X4500BT. Biggest pain in the ass to install. I have a Clarion CX-501 that is simple and works great. I don't need anything fancy.

Nathan_R Kenwood DNX6990HD. Love it-- streaming is great and the nav is simple.
