4Jeepn for short term it will work until you get a bumper mounted system.. i have a 33 on the stock one and will upgrading this summer.. Right now I have to lift up on the tire and slam it to get it to latch in.. hoping it holds a bit longer.

evmiii IMO that is too much weight for the tailgate. I suspect overtime it will bend your hinges and ruin your tailgate. I have a 33x12.5r15 on a pro comp steel rim and I would have never considered having that much weight supported by the tailgate. Recommend you spring for a bumper mounted swing arm carrier, there are a lot of options out there. I went with the smittybuilt tubular model and it looks and works good. Better safe than sorry, good luck.

Tire carrier questions

I recently purchased a heavy duty tire carrier. It's very similar to stock with the exception that the dimensions allow for a larger tire. I'm concerned bc I'm hearing about lift gate warping/ twisting. I currently run 33/12.5/r15 on American racing baja rims. Will the lift gate support a full sized spare? Or should I go with a smaller spare? The most offroading it will see is primarily the beach.
