ATX14 Just read some of the newer postings about spray paint. When I bed lined my PSC rock brawler mid, I used a couple of cans of self etching primer and probably 3 cans of Rust-Oleum bed liner. I did several coats of primer & bed liner allowing it to dry between coats.

It's been about 6 months since I painted my front, rear bumpers & spoiler and it is holding up well. I will touch up a chip from time to time but that is to be expected. Prep work is key, make sure the bumper is clean of any oils or surface rust that may have formed.

JKUR37 How many cans of spray paint is needed per coat. When I get mine (or the brawler mid) it is either going to be a hammered finish or a bedliner finish.

Salt Shaker I love mine in bedliner black.

Bearfan What prep do you do to the bumper before spraying with bed liner?

Thanks for sharing this tip to add color to the Spyder logo. I recently used the Rust-Oleum bed liner to paint my PSC Brawler mid bumper, front skid plate & Brawler rear bumper. With the proper prep work a rattle can will look good and any touch up will be easy. I still need to add color to my Spyder Logo so that is a good tip.

OhioJeepGirl I can't wait to order this bumper- I'll have to wait until Ohio weather warms up a bit so I can rattle can it and have a buddy of mine help me install it.
BTW, the bumper turns out fine if you rattle can it (friend of mine just did his). I have ACE rock sliders and soon to install my ACE rear bumper w tire carrier and when parked next to my friend's jeep with his rattle canned PSC bumper, the powdercoat and rattle can combo looks fine together- just make sure you buy the right rattle can color/ texture!

There is talk of it being put back into law but if they do it will allow for it to be placed in a manor that it is clearly visible from the front of the vehicle...ex. having it suction cupped to the front windshield so that angle glare is not a factor. We couldn't ask the rich doctors to comply if it required messing up the front bumper of their expensive vehicle which has no LP mount on the front haha.

BTW my source is I'm a current police officer in TX and have been for over 6 years.
I know this post is a year old but I think it needs clarification for Texas drivers. Texas still requires 2 license plates, one mounted in the rear & the other mounted in the front. In 2011 the fine was omitted on accident but two license plates were still required. Some departments chose not to enforece the law (internal policies) & some still did. After September 1st, 2013 the law was amended and a $200 fine was added. Also, it mentions proper placement of license plates is required. Although the Transportation Code does not clearly define "proper placement", Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (Texas highest court) ruled by a 7-2 decision that the front license plate must be mounted to the front bumper. That means placing it in the windshield is not acceptable. I'm not posting this to start a debate about the law, just clarifying a lot of misinformation about it. I have 17 yrs as a LEO in Texas & I got my info directly from the Texas Transportation Code & the most recent case law that I'm aware of that relates to front license plate requirements.

As of September 1, 2013:
Sec. 504.943. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway, during a registration period, a motor vehicle that does not display two license plates that:
(1) have been assigned by the department for the period; and
(2) comply with department rules regarding the placement of license plates.

As of September 15, 2010:
http://www.cca.courts.state.tx.us/OP...PD-1458-09.PDF

"'Front' means the foremost part or beginning of a vehicle, not in the front half, or in the front portion," Judge Cathy Cochran said in her majority opinion. "This meaning of 'front' as a location is not ambiguous and does not lead to an absurd result.

jonboy I only had to do a small amount of trim on the crash bar when installing it on my 2012 JKUR, even though the instructions said i had to cut a few inches off either side or remove it entirely. But I also had to remove 2 of the bolts used in mounting the skid to the bumper, as they were hitting the frame rails when trying to mount the bumper.

I have a few times, you won't have any problems. Poison Spyder products are built to use, and well tested before their put into production.
04-21-2013 08:02 PM
rundm Well, they seemed well built while looking at them on the web. I can tell you that after looking mine over before taking it to get powder coated, it is incredibly well built. If anything were to happen to it under load, I would be incredibly surprised. It's a beast. I can't wait for it to be ready to install.

I'd pull the trigger on this bumper, but I've been looking for one mounted on a stock Rubicon just to see.

Ya know, sometimes those first mods just don't look right unless you're a little lifted with some bigger tires
Congrats on the new rig.... I haven't seen any pics on a stock rubi but I'm sure it will look BA!
I haven't made up my mind yet on the front bumper there are to many to choose from and weight is a big issue with me because I'm not sure how long it will be till I lift mine.
Post some pics of your jeep when you get it and keep me posted on which bumper you go with

Yeah, I plan on ordering the spacer plates from Poison Spyder. I just need to give them a call because when I put them in my shopping cart and went to check out the shipping was crazy high.

It will still be a while before I get it on. I'm waiting on my rear Ace bumper to get here so I can have the powder coater match the finish. Last I checked I still had 2 - 4 weeks to wait on Ace. Stinks but it should be worth the wait.

I'm glad you had posted pics and I think another forum member too. It gave me a chance to see the fit of a Warn Zeon winch on this bumper. I ordered the Zeon 10-s today. Wooohoo but ouch that was expensive! Just empty every pocket!
