G-LOVE I believe it's just your Jeep engaging into gear, and then taking up slack in the drivetrain until it meets resistance from your brakes. The rise, could be your suspension moving under the force. Like soft or worn shocks, would be more likely to give a little. Some cars do this too, but harder to notice. it's Just a thought.

Wesboy I know what you mean - my 97 3 speed auto does the same thing.

Always assumed it was normal but don't know for sure - it's my first auto too.

s14sh3r I've never driven an automatic Jeep, but I've seen other vehicles that did that. As far as I know, there's nothing wrong with it.

Berend As the rookie I am, I couldn't tell you, honestly. The scenario is that when I'm not moving, holding the brake, and I switch gears, each gear lifts the whole back end of the Jeep to a different height from the ground. It could be no big deal, but it didn't seem quite right to me.

Gear shifting confusion

So in the last week I bought my first Wrangler (2001 Sahara Automatic), so please excuse my rookie mentality. Whenever I switch my Jeep from park to drive or from park to reverse or whatever else, the back end of my Jeep will raise or lower depending on whichever gear I put it in. I showed this to my brother who has a 2000 manual and he said he had never noticed something like this. Is this normal? If not, does anyone have a clue as to what can be done to fix this/how much it would cost?
