Hi. Native Oregonian, here. Central Oregon Coast. Born and raised in the Coast Range (St. Helens, then Vernonia), spent 20 years in NE Oregon in the Grande Ronde Valley, then 13 years in Portland, before moving here to Lincoln City 2 years ago.
Some of my very fondest memories are of going to the Jeep Races in Starkey with my mother, (step)father, and siblings. Drag races (1/4 mile) on a packed dirt track, and mud bog races right next to the drag strip. My (step)dad bought and built old Jeeps (CJs and Willys). He'd work on and race one for a few years until it was a consistent winner, then he'd sell it and buy a new one to work on. His last one, "The Bad Example" (with appropriate custom paint job :-) ), is a Willys. My niece inherited it upon his death 3 Christmases ago, so it has stayed in the family. Those happy times in my 20s and early 30s are when I learned to love Jeeps. I must say, I'm happy to see so many fellow Oregonians, here. I have to wonder if any of you ever attended those races in Starkey, way back (I have no clue if they're even still held--my dad stopped racing when my mother told him that the hobby was too expensive to continue)?
Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum, and this sub-group :-).

|TheCatman||Hello! I'm a recent transplant to Portland, and have purchased my first Wrangler, a stock '01 Canadian-market TJ Sahara. I've had to XJs previously, but never took them off road. I've been looking for a local group to get some guidance and make some newbie runs, and this group looks perfect for me. I look forward to joining the community!|
