Its actually a 1st gen 17lc.. If there's a such thing as a rare glock that is it. Imported in the first run in 88. There were very few compensated ones made and the factory ports were known for cracking. This one still has the original barrel in tact

In the woods it's usually this.

FN-Fal and AK47's were banned some time ago, here in Canada. We've lost all the cool ones. Still have the AR15, but it is Restricted by name, so it's just a range toy.

Here's my M44, cosmo cleaned, finish stripped, sanded (keeping 80% of the flaws) and re-stained:

I stripped the stock of the degraded shellac and black spray paint (I think) on the buttstock, staining it American Chestnut. Looks great, while keeping most of the flaws making it a period piece. Just an update: We got a 5yr amnesty on the guns banned last week, but they are still listed as Prohibited. Not sure if we can even shoot them in the meantime
Oh yes, there's been much talk about that recent ban over at the Falfiles, no bueno. I just refinished my M44 carbine's stock but haven't put it back together yet. I'll try to snap a few pics. I stripped and boiled the stock, then did hot applications of BLO/turps mix, then several hand rubbed cold apps of BLO and Pure Tung Oil, then polished with Rottenstone. Surprisingly it turned out mildly red with a smooth sheen.

May refinish the stock when I complete the cosmoline removal. I have read that former communist block countries are exporting these now... Some people have gotten lucky and have found #'s matching/exc cond rifles in the crates. Don't know much about these, but here's some markings for anyone in the know: Caked in Cosmo

st1264 List of Prohibited Weapons in Canada (about to get longer)

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/r.../FullText.html

This clown's greed and feud with a fellow gun store (and former partner) got these rifles examined by the RCMP (sent his competitor's rifle in for inspection), knowing full well they would be reclassified as a variant of the selective fire Sig 550/551 rifle (already named prohibited). Why, because he was the initial importer of the rifle to Canada and it's alleged that he misled the RCMP about the lineage. The RCMP who is so focused on 'public safety' didn't even examine a specimen and granted it's entry. The competition's rifle he sent - passed, the ones in his store - Failed. All were later deemed variants.

I see Border Dave has a 522... are semi-550's legal there? Don't think these can be exported across the border anyway.

Don't think you can have one of these in the US, not enough points or something. These are great rifles, costing around $3000 CDN each. Once deemed Prohibited, you're pretty well screwed.

The RCMP just declared another sporting rifle as Prohibited - Czech CZ858 vz58 rifle(converted auto - can be changed back easily in their opinion): Other VZ58 rifles made by other manufacturers are not affected, but this is the most popular one.
