|Ogre22||One thing to look at is what tires are available for what size wheel. Some sizes limit your available tire selection and cost the bigger wheel you go the more money the tires cost.|

If you want to do a 3" lift, you would want to run at least a 32" tire to avoid there being too much tire to fender gap. I would recommend a 2" BB if you want to run a set of 31's.
That will give you more than enough clearance for the 31's, which in turn will get you more ground clearance and that aggressive look.
you shouldn't need to re-gear to run 31's on a 6 cylinder. The 4.0 has more than enough power to turn them. If you plan on going bigger down the road, figure out what tire size you want to go to then you can figure out the gear ratio you should run.
Here is a picture of a friend of mine's TJ on 31's with a 2" BB lift in the front only. He added the winch and bumper and wanted to level the Jeep back out.

31's on 17" rims. Are you sure about that. They will have a very tiny side wall and errrrrrrr look odd.
Regearing going to 31's really is not worth the cost.

i have a 2002 sport 4.0 6cyl. manual. my plan as of now is to put a 3" rancho suspension lift. its either that or a 3" full traction economy lift. i currently have 215/75r15 and i was hoping to get 31's with 17" wheels. it has been recommended to do a regear but i don't know to what. i'm assuming either 3.73 or 4.10 but what would be the best choice. right now my ratio is 3.55. also any opinions about either of the lifts would be much appreciated
