aTX427 Still has part of the frame rails and title LOL

UnionTJ Lol, you went from "I like having this capable sleeper" to rebuilding entirely! What flipped the switch?

tkfx At this point there isnt much of a "jeep" left In this build lol

Beat-the-box I'm just like wow, your jeep is crazy built solid. I'm just getting into it and would like to in the future put a 5.7-6.0 in it and driveline but still adding all my body armor and fenders, bumpers, gears/axles, tubes/gussets so I'm a small fry compared to your monster.

aTX427 I have been spending a majority of my time on the JK, so the buggy has been sitting, however I just picked up a rear spine for my 14 bolt and the LS1 motor mounts, so hopefully I can start test fitting the engine this weekend.

aTX427 Been cutting, welding and bending for the past few weeks making some progress. I'm completely hooked on Artec components. Doing a custom front and rear 3-link using a bunch of their parts on my JK build as well.

aTX427 Making slow progress... I cut the frame off at the front just past the motor mounts and the rear where the frame rises for axle clearance. The tub was cut out behind the wheel wells, just in case someone wants to build an expedition trailer.

I have the boat sides in place, the body welded to the frame and the seat mounts in place. The way the mounts are, I can drill extra holes to move the drivers seat forward or back and will most likely fix mount the passenger side. Height-wise, they are about 1.5" higher than stock, which is great, because I always felt the stock height was a bit too low.

Also decided to drop in an LS1 from a 2004 GTO, so it looks like I'm stepping to to a Jimmy's 4x4 prepared TH400 with an 3.8:1 Atlas II. The cool thing about this engine / transmission combo is that it is so simple. The '04 GTO was the last year of the LS1. It is pre-emissions and uses a drive by cable throttle body, so it should be easier to install than most. I am planning on building a custom dash and having a stand alone harness made to reduce wiring headaches.

Rpkittle fyi, still watching this build

aTX427 My day job has me extremely busy, so this build has been slow moving. The good news is that it's given me a lot of time to look up other builds and I have actually changed my design a little bit. Decided to go a little longer 115-116" and plan on doing a custom dash with a billet steering column.

Been working on the axles, gears, body, dash, electrical and the engine. For now, I am running the stock 4.0, standard trans and transfer case, so I cleaned up the engine, and replaced the rear main seal, valve cover seal and cleaned up the harnesses. I plan on ordering DOM components to build my frame side 4 link mounts this week.

aTX427 Rebuilding these old axles is a major PIA. Should have saved up and purchased new.

Alright, Ive been researching the 14b past week and was looking for an effective disc brake option that used something besides the eldorado calipers, but sadly I couldn't find a better alternative. Love to see how your build is going, I have a 14b and 60 up front planned for the future!

aTX427 It doesn't seem like I got a lot done over the past two weeks, but tearing down both axles and refinished all the stock parts is extremely time consuming. I plan on dropping the 14 bolt off at a machine shop this week to have it cut down for the shave kit. Everything else is ready for installation, which I will start next week. I did get my tires mounted on the headlocks, which is another small project that takes a long time.

Are you sticking with the drums or going with the disc swap, and if you are doing the disc swap how do you plan on addressing the e-brake?

tkfx Are you going with a 14 bolt in the rear or a 60?

aTX427 Received a lot of parts over the past few weeks and started tearing down the front end this weekend. I decided to 4-link the front & rear, going with a rear mounted radiator and plan on tubing out the front & rear. I am selling a lot of parts that I don't need - aftermarket and OEM. If anyone is interested, check out my part out thread.

Live4rah What does this mean? I have an 05 sport which is fairly stock...? a Savage bowless soft top, which does fit over a Poly rear sport cage, just in case anyone is interested.

Need to get the stretch / 4-Link done, then the next stage is D60's, full hydraulic, a front stretch and 40's. Next stage after that is some kind of LSX (probably an LS3 Corvette take out, unless I get a good deal on n LS7), an Atlas and an automatic swap. Not sure if a TH400 will fit, but that would be my preference.

cbking How much for the front fenders?
11-05-2013 07:53 AM
aTX427 Pretty much with the exception of a fuel cell and struts. Need to order ORi's, new fenders and a fuel cell. I picked up a 2014 JKUR for overlanding, so I'm going to stretch the rear 9" with comp cut outs and fabricate aluminum boat sides.
