Adian Not the first, but os the first together. I'm a vet and my wife is an officer, so we make out pretty good with all of the allowances.

Most of the mod $$ is going to the Raptor right now, just got it a few weeks ago and it needs new exhaust, and bumpers. Just put a to tonneau bed cover on it this weekend to make it more secure during our move.

Not going to do much to mine right now other than new bumpers and a winch once I find a new job at the new duty station. I've only had it a few months and just put 33's on. Oh and new rims, getting a little run at full turn with the 33's

so what mods do you plan with the money you will be making off of the move?

a little word of advice, I dont know if this is your first move, but get the paycheck advance. it is basically an interest free loan and use it to pay off credit card debt!

Yea that's what I'm thinking now after talking to the guy that said no on the trailer.

Was going to tow because we already have to drive the raptor and figured make a little $$ on it by towing it instead of gas for both. But adding up cost, $456 for the trailer, I don't think ill spend 456$ in gas

Off Pavement So why did UHaul turn you down??? Their web site clearly shows towing a Jeep Wrangler on a trailer OK for a Raptor with a 5K hitch so you could make reservations for a trailer on line.

Yeah a stock raptor tow hitch is 6k. You're all set to pull any jk with a raptor

Don't tell them what you will put on it. They only say no to release them of liability. Tell them you will tow a miata. Your rig can safely tow 6k on its hitch idk why they won't let you

Vroom has a point tho. Towing a 5k jk behind the raptor will take a toll on that gas mileage so I'm not sure how much you would actually be saving by towing it vs driving it. Maybe 50 gallons or $200? That's the same as renting a trailer and less than the flat tow system

Vroooom WAY overthinking this.

Its only 1600 miles.

In my neck of the woods, that not much.

Just drive the darn thing.

Thats 100 gallons of fuel.

Cheaper than a replacement windshield after your tug kicks up shit in front of the Jeep.

They said the weight was non compatible when I called but looking on the website says it should be. Weigh station had it at 4744 that's with me in it and with a half tank of gas

Off Pavement Checking the UHaul website, it looks like your only problem with towing with the Raptor is the hitch isn't up to the job. Get a 5k hitch installed and rent a trailer would be my suggestion.

Tweak why on earth wont uhaul rent you a real trailer? I used one for my 350Z when I PCS'd

Harbor freight has some cheap ones you can throw on there. They are external ones

Thorshammer7 I bought my JKU used and the previous owner towed it behind his RV with a tow bar. Heres a link to a RV forum talking about it. Hope this helps.

Vroooom Tow it ON a trailer
or tow it AS a trailer
But dont use a half-assed trailer (dolly)

This is one of the coolest things that Jeeps can do that most others cannot.

RRTRI Don't forget you also need a brake light method. You can go with either external or integrated systems.

If you feel more comfortable with 4 wheels down do that. Especially if you ever plan on towing long distance again. If this is it for towing it then you can either spend money or save money. Also how inconvenient is it for you to get and return the uhaul dolly? If its not close by then the flat tow system is better

If you aren't going to go aux braking you will need a base plate and a tow bar at a minimum. That will likely run you $500 - $800 depending on the brand you go with.

RRTRI Really interested in this thread. I'm looking to do the same thing this summer. Also pulling a JKU a long distance with a Raptor that is. After you've done the trip I'd love to hear anything you learned.

I've been doing a lot of reading on the options. From what I've gathered the only options are 4 wheels up or 4 wheels down. No dolly (without modifications). I'm also hoping to come up with a solution that will let me pull either JKU we own. I might end up having to install a base plate on each (assuming 4 down towing) but I'm hoping to come up with a base plate free solution that works with the ace bumpers we have. Also likely going to end up with a brake buddy system and that is where I'm particularly interested in hearing about the Raptor. It sounds like you are thinking no aux braking and I'm wondering how the Raptor does braking for both itself and the JKU without aux braking involved.

Codysrubicon I would highly recommend dropping the drive shaft if you use a dolly on a 4x4. When I worked for the tow company this was our policy, because if the fronts are stationary while the rears are turning it can cause unwanted wear on the TC. Remove four bolts and strap the driveshaft up to the frame and you'll save yourself a lot of worry. Some will tell you that you don't have to do all this, but a TC and Transmission aren't worth it to me not to crawl under and undo four bolts.

Youre right. T case in neutral is just for all 4 down.

You can just drop the driveshaft and you have no problems dolly towing a 4x4 vehicle tho. The rear axle will be completely disengaged from the rest of the drivetrain

Ponderosa Owner's manual page 532: Dolly towing with either the front or rear wheels off the ground is NOT ALLOWED. It's either four down or a car trailer.

jkjeeper06 To tow a jk on a dolly you need to put your transfer case in neutral or with a 2wd jeep you have to drop the driveshaft. Sounds like you have 4x4 so you just put it in N on the transfer case and your good to go.

No it would be better to use a dolly. You'd need a whole other expensive set up to tow 4 wheels down. It'd be significantly cheaper to rent a dolly from uhaul or buy a used one on Craigslist

2013 Unlimited on a Tow Dolly

Hi all,

The military is relocating my wife and I (1600 miles)and we were going to pull my jeep with her Ford Raptor, I've read dif things saying is ok and also not ok to tow it with a tow dolly (front wheels up), UHaul won't rent me a 4 wheel up trailer. The military would move it but we are looking at a month or more to arrive and with both working we need to take both.

1) can I do it if I switch the transfer case to neutral mode?

2) any other details I need to know?

3) would it be better to pull it 4 wheels down like behind a motor home?
