|billp911||I'm considering buying the jeep with the stock basic radio and have an aftermarket Alpine head unit installed. Cost is $1700 with the back up camera. About the same price as the 730 without the camera.|

Also, after install, you have to have a dealership enable the backup camera feature in your 430 or 730 radio.

f/u on camera
Hi I have a brand new jeep and would love to have the camera. I am afraid that I am not able to install it myself, despite your excellent (thank you) instructions. Can anyone please recommend a jeep dealership or a AV vender who can do this for me in the Boston area? I live near Foxboro.

Jeep Radio Wire Harness w Premium Amp Plug 2002 Up | eBay
|01-06-2014 10:22 PM|
Im confused as well...
Seems people are saying that if you get the dealer to starscan the headunit for you, you don't need the lockpick/navtv module at all, just the harness that plugs into the OEM camera port of the back of the headunit with an RCA input for an aftermarket camera...has anyone found a harness that does exactly that, and if so, can you please link it?

BTW, I found this (the pic below), but I would rather have what's shown above.

|Bigdog67||I figured it out... I had to solder a RCA plug to make the connection to the new camera coming off the factory oem plug to the commander camera.... I do not have lock pick I had the radio flashed at dealer to turn on backup feature.... Orange gray wire gets soldered to outside of the RCA connector and the other wire gets soldered to inner pin|
|01-06-2014 06:17 AM|
|kolky||The RCA plug should not get soldered anywhere. It should plug into the camera and run back to the head unit (or lockpik, navtv, etc...). You may need to buy a long RCA cable for this if your unit did not come with it. The power wire for the camera should get soldered to another power supply (reverse lights or navtv, lockpik, etc...)|

|Bigdog67||Hey guys really need help on what wires to solder on the RCA plug...... Have been searching all day and can not find it.... Does the RCA plug take the camera signal and return wires? Or just the signal return and shield wire?|

I used the stock camera that came in the commander/ Cherokee backup camera kit but had to get a new bumper tBecause of an accident and want to get rid of the stock camera and upgrade to a better quality camera. The only question I have is around after market cameras. Which wires from the stock plug that go into the stock camera do I use to solder on the RCA video cord? I believe there is 4 wires that go into the plug.... Power ground shield and video in? Anyone have pics of which wires get soldered to the RCA plug? That way if I need to change out camera it's just plug n play.... I have the 430n and was stars canned at dealer for Intial instal...|
