AF1 Auxilliary Brake System

We tow our 2013 Sahara JKU behind our motor home. I have had the AF1 system on all of my toads. The system works flawlessly off of the air brake system on the Motorhome. I would recommend that the RV dealer install a braking feedback light on your dash to let you know when the system is applying the brakes. They can also wire in an LED light that would attach near the rear view mirror of the Jeep that you can see in the rear view camera in the RV.

Get your jeep on We just got back from the RV dealer, trying to learn how to put a base plate on our 10 A, blue ox makes one that fits well below where our winch is. Will post pictures once it is installed In a couple of weeks. They recommended an Air Force one integrated brake system. Has anyone ever heard of these? If so, what are your thoughts? We had a break buddy system in our last vehicle, and stopped using it because, well, it didn't work half of the time. Thinking a built in break control is the way to go, would love feedback from the experts.

Kevin1959 I just received my BlueOx base plate (2013 Sport) Attempting install in the morning. Ordered a Ready Brute Elite Towbar with brake built in the unit. Pretty slick looking.

parker65 The Blue Ox doesn't do away with the skid pan. It does however trim it on each side for clearance. I just finished installing the BO last week. It does the job, but I do wish something similar to the Currie rock jock was available for the 10A bumper.

Tow Brackets for 10a

I see now that box Road Master, and Blue Ox are making tow brackets. Just picked up our 10A yesterday and starting to do my homework.. It looks like you will have to take that protective pan off underneath the bumber and possibly leave it off. I do not like the idea of that but maybe someone will make brackets that are integrated with the protective pan.Have about a month to solve this.

I'm going to wait on the new Blue Ox plate designed for the 10A. That way if something ever does break loose, I can refer back to BO for assistance with damages. With the modified/unapproved plate, they will simply state that it's modified or not used on it's intended application and deny any responsibility.

Also I want to retain the front lower skid. It acts as an air dam and helps keep hood flutter away.

I'm not knocking what you did by any means. I strongly considered this myself. After pondering the nature of the litigation happy society we live in, I decided not to leave an opening for liability on my part if an accident or failure should occur. I've even contemplated building one from scratch to suit myself, but again, I didn't want the liability if an interstate mishap occurs.

Regular Blue Ox baseplate for 07-13 wrangler on my 10a. Have to remove plate under front bumper and drill 3 new holes instead of 2 on both sides. Baseplate will be a little lower than it normally would. No cutting needed on bumper or anything else.

Blue Ox is working on a base plate to fit the 10A. There are several of us waiting for it. Carla at Blue Ox who schedules fitments has said the soonest she had an open space was the first week of June. They have a 10A scheduled for that week, and should have something ready shortly thereafter.

I saw that. To tell the truth I prefer replacing the air dam with this steel plate as opposed to trimming the plastic to fit around the Blue Ox base plate.

Mody n Domy Sorry don't know how to post picks will have to learn some day. The part I had to trim was on the bottom of the frame on each side it stuck down about 3/8" below the frame I used a cut off wheel and let it cool and the painted it. You do have to remove the plastic air dam to install it.

Any pics of the Currie plate installed? It looks really interesting to me compared with the Blue Ox base plate. I'm running the Blue Ox Aventa II tow bar so this would be a good match I think.

I'll have to see if it will cooperate with the new 10A bumpers. Currie doesn't know since they haven't seen one.

Their website says trimming neccessary with 2010 and up. What did you have to trim?

I've got everything else covered. I ordered the Blue Ox base plate to try when the Jeep gets here in the next week or two, but they don't know if theirs will work with the new bumper either. I like the looks of the Currie online, If you could post some pics I'd really appreciate it.

For "my" wiring of the tail/brake lights I'm using Mopar#82211156AB. It's a little pricey but I like the way it integrates.

Tow brakes - I have an air brake coach so it's M&G braking systems for me. I've used it before on my '01 Cherokee and it's excellent. I tried the SMI Airforce One on my '11 Grand Cherokee, I prefer the M&G 2to1 over that set-up.

Mody n Domy I tow a 12 JK and use the Currie Enterprise Rock Jock tow plate, Blow Ox tow bar and there Patriot breaking control, Cool-Tech wiring harness and Toad charger wiring to keep battery charged while towing. Just follow the owners manual for proper tow procedures and I don't leave key in ignition. The total price will depend on the cost of the tow bar and base plate. For your own safety and the safety of others make sure you have a toad breaking system it is a law in most states that you have one.

Rude Dog Look around on craigslist for a tow bar. I found a pretty good one (Falcon II) for a third of the cost from some older folks getting out of RVing. Came with the security cables, pins etc and front bar. The bar wasn't for a jeep, but I copied the basic design and fab'd one up out of a piece of angle iron. It's mounted under the bumper. I use the Harbor Freight plug in magnetic style lights, everything works great.

It basically consists of a towbar and the 'baseplate' that solidly mounts to the frame of the Jeep to connect with the bar. Because you have a gas coach, you'll need a drop to lower the receiver that the bar attaches to at the rear of the coach. You'll also need safety cables and the electrical cabeling and wiring harness for your lights. I recommend Cool Tech for their plug-in lighting harness for Jeeps.
There are several popular towbar manufactures. I use a Roadmaster Sterling which is the high end of that line.
You'll have to check the prices on line and decide what you can afford.
Big difference in quality from the higher end set-ups to the bargan stuff so don't cheap out if you can help it (and... don't go to Camping World unless you want to pay a lot more).
My bar runs about $800, the base plates around $400 and then the rest of that stuff will add up to another 3 to $400.
Jeeps are pretty east to do the base plate yourself but if you don't have that capability that will further add to the cost.

Are you towing with a gas coach, or diesel pusher? If it's a pusher then your toad brake choices are different due to the air brakes.

Tow bar and base plate, you have several choices and prices. Personally I use Blue Ox, I prefer the design and ease of use. They are also more out of the way as far as base plate design and I prefer the asthetics. Their customer service is excellent and they offer free inspection and tow bar rebuild services at rallies.

Marc W You don't. They no longer have a steering lock. I flat tow mine behind my RV and remove the key. Did that with my previous 2011 also. You just have to be sure to go thru the pre-tow procedure that's in the book.

Dextreme I know on my TJ, it needs the key in the first click forward to keep the steering wheel unlocked. Your manual should let you know why for the JK.
