sounds like you've done your research and made up your mind, which is good.
i have never never never never never ever ever ever ever ever heard of anyone switching from soa, to sua untill that article. thats a first. and obviously that jeep was wheeled like a red headed step child. sounds like they couldn't figure out their own geometry of a simple suspension. of every yj owner i've ever met, and trust me, there's many. no one w/ soa has ever regretted it, or ever talked of changing back. and when built correctly, they are very stout.
thats just a weird article to me.

I have read a lot about SOA and was very close to doing it until THIS...

I dont know if any of you have seen this but I really dont want a world of breaking things and I also worry about the welding part of the swap. If it helps my jeepin is mostly trail and mud. Im very mixed on what I should go with now.

|trumsey07||For the money and performance go with a spring over. You will put the sua on and regret it in the long run. there are threads all over this forum that will show you how to install a sye. I did an soa and am amazed with its ability off road just doe some more reserch on both lifts and make ur decision|

yea, and plan on droppin another $1000 parts and labor for the sye..
thats why you can avoid it for the time being by using the t-case drop, which i would recommend for you personally since you were initially quivering over the extra few hundred bux on a suspension lift..
you can do the sye at any time, your d-line will hold up fine for awhile til you get the $ for slip yoke kit.
so cmon and git her up

axle wrap being one tiny down side, that if done right will not be a factor, far out weighs the downsides to suo. but, i'm done preaching on that.
body lift does not effect drive line angle. so it isn't mandatory to do sye w/ the set up you described. its almost mandatory, and its the right way to do it, so those kits selling you t case drops, and shims are a waste.

|Jblondie813||thanks for the input...Id rather not do a SOA due to the things I hear about axle wrap. Im not worried about doin a SYE kit bc I have a 2" BL so with the 4" suspension lift that would be around 6" total so I pretty much have to do the SYE anyway... correct?|

i don't think i push anyone though, i just give info as best i can. i just know way too many people over the years that buy a 4" sua lift, and get all pissed off when they see the difference of soa, and then they wanna change, but just spent tons of money on a 4" lift w/ wedges, and junk they didn't need. so they're either unhappy, or change and threw that money away. i'd say all of them wish they could've read on a forum before they did it.
shoot, when i first started out way back when, a guy talked me into a 3" body lift for my first lift on my first jeep. luckily i didn't do it, but i think i even bought the parts. luckily i held off, and once i saw one i was like ewww, glad i didn't do that. some people do it, then get the ewww moment.

yea it is the preferred way,
jblondie, i ran both kits b4, and the rexd springs are military wrap, and will require you to do the sye kit. (expensive)
save your $ and go with the standard kit.
if you wanna know the difference just do yer homework..

|jpdocdave||and those kits sell you junk you don't need, or shouldn't use. they use t case drop and shims to address the drive line. kinda chinsey way to do things. you should really do sye and cv d shaft with those lifts, but instead they sell you pucks and wedges.|

jeeze, thats a lot of money for a sua lift on a yj.
for that money you could be pretty close to an soa lift, which is far superior, and thats with new springs, not reusing the old ones.
i'd do soa before i spent 1200 smackers on a spring under lift.

Looks like the 4.5 has nicer shocks (not shown) drop pitman arm, new shackles, different rear brake line, greasealbe shackle bolts. Not sure if the springs are just .5 taller or if they also have some different spring rate etc...

RE 4" or RE 4.5" Suspension Lift?
Hey guys. Im at a catch 22 and need help with some differences. I have a 4wd mag. that says RE 4.5" Extreme duty lift for $899.99 after getting my hopes up I checked their site to see it actually was the typical $1129.99. So now before I drop the extra $400 for the Extreme duty, HERE is my question
Which lift would you recommend of the two? What are the differences between the two?(other than the shocks and no shocks thing which isnt a big deal I plan on getting different shocks anyway)
