i bent my factory skid into oblivion before i lifted mine... never thought about it causing and issue. I went with an aftermarket full Engine skid. IMO thats the route you should take instead of trying to make the factory one work.
The factory one is far too flimsy.

|wlindsey||Nice modification. I just cut the front arm off and have been running it like that. I know that it's not perfect but I didn't feel like dropping $3-400 on an aftermarket and I wasn't smart enough to modify by welding.|

|LJ Dave||I couldn't see throwing away an otherwise perfectly good skid plate when it was actually really easy to modify the stock one. When I did this mod, I had never seen an aftermarket skid, but I was glad to see that several use a very similar approach to solving this issue. The biggest challenge for me was removing it from the vehicle because the nut inserts in my frame spun. That was a real drag. If you don't weld, I'm sure any local welding shop could do this for you for a few $$.|

Here are some photos of how I modified my stock skid plate. You have to cut the mounting arm off very close to the skid plate or the driveshaft will rub when the right front tire is fully stuffed and the left front tire fully droops:

I had the same skid on my 04 that I removed when I did a Undercoverfab tummy tuck.
They make an engine skid that attaches to the motor mounts and back to the TC skid. I don't see why it wouldn't work bolted on to a stock TC skid.
I want to get it, but still running without. Not many huge rocks where I go.

Yes you have to cut the left front mounting arm off all the way back to the plate. Before cutting mine off, I took a bunch of measurements for the available space envelope and the driveshaft and then I used some bar stock to weld up an A-shaped arm that goes over the top of the driveshaft instead of under it. I welded it to the existing bracket in between the edge of the plate and the end of the mounting arm so i knew the mounting holes would line up, then I cut out the center section. Mine now looks similar to some of the aftermarket designs that go over the top of the driveshaft.
I actually believe you may be able to get by with just cutting it off and leaving it that way. Don't know for sure if it would vibrate or not, but it's worth a try as either way, that arm needs to go.
Mine won't win any beauty awards and it was the very first thing I ever made with my welder, but it was a good safe project to learn from. I'll shoot a couple of photos so you can see what I'm talking about.

Auto Trans Skid Plate on Lifted Rubicon
So I lifted my 05 Rubicon with a RE Express 3.5" kit. While it was not in the instructions I have read on here that for the automatics, this skid plate will interfere with the front driveshaft when the front axle drops to full drop. I have read you can remove it or use a plasma cutter to notch the plate to provide driveshaft clearance. I have included a picture of the skid. If you cut the plate, where would you cut at. To me it appears you would have to cut that left mounting arm off? Then that corner would be unsupported? Anyone have any good fixes for this. Leaving the plate off leave the trans oil pan totally exposed which does not look like a good idea.
