I like it! I'll be building a custom carrier too. How does that latch work?

I could build one for about 120-150, most expensive piece is the hinge and latch. But it still adds a big tire on the back of your vehicle adding weight from a heavy tire and bumper and obstructs your view out the back of the window. Plus time into welding one up. I'd rather just throw the tire in the back when I wheel and leave it out when I'm not. I will probably build one eventually but I am sure I will run it in the back for a short while. It's also a pretty good look with the CJ tailgate swap.

I have my 33 on my carrier for now, when I bump to 35s and then 37s I don't really like that big of a tire on the back either way. That's just my personal preference though.

Oversize tire, drop down tailgate, etc.

Ill probably do it when I bump up a tire size. Not wasting 700 to carry my spare on my bumper. Lol.

GoldenSahara00 remove stock carrier. remove rear seat. Bolt seatbelt bolt in middle through top middle bolt hole. Drill two holes in tube at lower corned bolt holes. Attach with bolt and washer/nut under tub.

No spare tire carrier? let's see some pics! - Page 4 - JeepForum.com

I know some people have just taken the factory tire carrier and mounted that in the back but im looking for custom stuff

Im designing something now that will not only store the tire, but unlock and flip up for secure storage underneath

TXST8tj I would not suggest paying the money for one of these specifically, but the concept is decent.
It's a bedmount carrier from Fabtech...and I know others make some similar. You drill a hole in the tub, bolt the nut/plate to the tub, load tire in bed, thread Y handle through center of wheel into the nut plate.

deucestudios I used a piece from the hatch of a XJ cherokee, it's a half ball with a T handle screw and mounting bolt, then attached that to a piece of flat stock running between the two seat belt mounting bolts.
