|BCDonny||I myself would not buy a yj that has had a recent paint job, that is not complete stock. I would be afraid of buying something thats been covered up, or is some one elses nightmare|

This one looks to be pretty decent. Priced a little high but hey... if he can get it, more power to him.

1. - Frame RUST and so much of it...The previous owner undercoated it at some part of it's life...but either just did it over the top of the rust or something but now it's just scaling off something fierce. Not so much on the easily visible sections, but up underneath, it's pretty bad. Only a couple parts that are completely rotted through, but so much surface scaling.
2. Drivers floor pad rotted through (I knew about this one, but was smart enough to know that this could be easily fixed) - I'm too afraid to rip up the rest of the carpet at this point (I just don't even want to know)
3. Stock Axles and Gears
4. 350/350 conversion - I was excited about this one, I've always been a car guy...I've owned a couple mustangs. Love the v8 power and sound. But didn't realize that Jeeps weren't built for this kind of power and you have to pay close attention to the drivetrain or some real damage can be done. Then the most important part, I was so nieve that I just assumed it would pass Missouri Inspection. Yeah no, not even close...
5. The body is actually the best part...Straight and looks pretty good.
I realize that most of these items can be fixed...It's possible the frame isn't as bad as I'm thinking it is. I bought the Jeep, because my Mustang was pretty much finished and "thought" I wanted a "project"...I still do, but this is much more than I intended for.
Again...If I would have just been smart enough spend some time on this site and know what to look for, then I probably wouldn't have gotten taken as bad as I did...I don't blame the PO, he answered all my questions...He just didn't "give up" any information...he knew was a noob.
Anyway...Longer explanation than I'm sure you care to hear...I'm not done with Jeeps, I just want one that can pass MVI.

I really wish I would have spent more time researching before I bought my Jeep... Embarrassingly I was one of "those" guys who paid way to much out of ignorance and excitement and got a POS. Actually I traded for it, but what he got was 10 times better than what I got. I was nieve and made an impulse decision, without asking the right questions and doing the research. Now I've got a hunk of junk that won't pass inspection, so I'm trying to pick up my dignity off the ground and sell it for whatever I can get out of it. (Which won't be much)....
I read through these posts and can't do anything but laugh at the poor decision I made...

I got my 90 2.5 with 48,000 original miles from an 85 year old Jeep nut. It sat in a huge heated garage for years. $3,000. I replaced brakes, clutch, master/slave, belts, fluids, wires, plugs, and basically all the sensors. It runs well now. I also lifted it 2", and put 31" Duratracs on. I love this Jeep.

|OverkillYJ||Cant say it is not worth it, but I bet it has been abused from the looks of it. Also, it has the Dana 35 and AX5, both of which suck. He also does not have the milage listed, and it might not be able to pass inspection where you live. I know without flares that would not in PA. With 5 new tires though, and the winch, rollcage, hard and soft top combo I would say it is worth the time. I would offer him $3500-$4k, just because I never pay what the listed price is in a CL add. I would not pay the $4500 he is asking either way.|

|Pukeolicious||In Colorado I bought my '93 2.5l with 80k for $5000. I think that is the sweet spot for YJ's, as far as price goes. It can fluctuate depending on upgrades to the Jeep. Mine was stock.|

I paid $500 for an 88 yj with 63,000 original miles. I6, 5spd. It was sitting for 5 years. I have about $1800 in it. Had to replace the carb with a weber and then switched to a GM hei ignition. All new brakes and lines. Only rust was in the drivers floor pan. I replaced it. Everything else was clean. Has a 5 year old super top. I've put 9,000 miles on it this year.
They are out there to be found. If you see one sitting, go ask about it! Of course, I just bought a 13 rubi, so the yj is sitting again. Lol. Good luck! Jason
