chemicaljeep I used only d -rings in the ceiling joist of my garage and ropes . pull under lift up and tie off . weight is not an issue since they are mostly plastic now. pull in pull up tie off drive out. simple . to put back on drive in let down rebolt driveout. 15 bucks max. good luck.

Hoist for a Jeep Top

I had every inetion on building a hoist for my top this weekend, but after a few trips to harbor frieight and about every hardware store in town, I am having problems finding the write hand winch/hoist to use. I am trying to keep it very low cost -but want to make sure it is safe. I have looked at trailer winches, brake winches and even wondering if a come-along would work. I am nervous about being able to drop the top back down smoothly and not cause any dmg when i do. Any suggestions?
