|97Snyder||Engine completed and purring like a kitten now. It is running great and no leaks in sight. It will be under high surveillance during the break in period and I will keep posting any changes.|

I am using Mahle Piston rings. They came with the pistons I ordered. I looked up the part number of 51869cp and summit racing shows they are cast iron rings. I do not know much about what material is the best? I am leaving the block in the jeep. I agree it would suck if the block just bailed on me but it looks great. I am hoping to finish honing and then start reassembly tomorrow. I also got CRC Sta-lube engine reassembly lube for the reassembly. My only question is do I use this lube on the pistons when I place them back in the cylinders or do I just use the same oil I will be running in it? I am also wondering if there is some kind of special oil I should use during the break in period? I was planning on using Castrol full synthetic 5w-30..... anyone have any opinions on this idea?

Are you using cromoly rings or aluminum?
I asked about the head because I figured u might as well have it checked out and cleaned up while u have it off. Beats the Heck out of having to pull again at a later date.. then again, $#!+ happens..... Good luck man and there's not much u can mess up. Just torque to specs and u are good to go.

|97Snyder||No I have inspected the block and it is still in great shape. I am also doing this rebuild in frame and am trying not to completely remove it. I am also hoping to have it back together tomorrow and maybe start it up Friday.|

|PiePuncher||That's about what I spent on my rebuild. R u going to take the head to a machine shop to have it looked at? U made the right decision to repair and I wish u the best of luck. My rebuild gave me great power and better gas mileage. I'm happy I did it|

|97Snyder||I am going to hone the cylinders in a few hours when I wake up and before I go into work. Then re assembly straits and hopefully I don't fudge something up and ruin all the hard work. So far I've only spent 420$ on this rebuild so not to bad.|

|97Snyder||I found my compression problem..... the piston is cracked.... the cylinder is not scratched and the ring lip is barely there so looks to me like I only need to replace the piston or pistons.|

Installing cam bearings and plugs.

Call around to some local machine shops.
Get some prices.
Call some mechanic shops, see who they use.
Down here 1300 is a round about price for a rebuild

If you're happy with the Jeep, then I would look into rebuilding whatever is broken now. A top end rebuild is obviously quicker than a complete engine pull and rebuild. If time is critical you can swap with a rebuilt one, but personally I would rather rent a car and take more time to rebuild the originals if possible. What shape is the body in? Do you have hard top or soft? Full doors or halfs. What wheels and tires and how much tread is left. Is the frame good? I think you could do it. You might be surprised. Half doors alone in my area, you get you 500 easy. But each market is different. At least we are going into spring. Hell you could try selling with the issue disclosed to a gearhead that loves to work on engines and would not mind the project.

|97Snyder||I put a little bit of oil in the cylinder 1 and retested the cylinder to find it increased it to 45-50psi. So Im thinking its the piston rings and I will need to rebuild it, find one from a salvage yard or buy a rebuilt one or sell it.|
