I could buy an entire CJ body off quadratec.com right now if i wanted to, for any jeep made after 1946...., all reproduction steel and the important parts are officially licensed.
That's the only part of that jeep that would really need to be original. Anything else could be modded.
Infact I decided this morning that i wish i would have built a brand new CJ instead of buying my JK.....
You should replace that engine with a small block chevy!!
Your rear seat is missing? Someone probably took it out and forgot where they put it 50 years ago. I run without a rear seat on my jeep.....

thanks for the interest, I just did read up on how to post pics.. I will pick a host and send along the ones i took when we rescued it with a trailer... the hood and front fenders are pretty rusty, but the cj's are more of an icon to me than any other, with the older jeeps like this being what I always wanted.
I am defending this action and hope it goes well or the missus will be all over me.. lol..
not in a good way.

got the 47 willys cj2A.. wow..
I have the cj2a now and have some marvel mystery oil soaking the pistons to try to free them up.. the motor is siezed up.... I intend to get the engine running first then go from there..
there is a lot of rust, but it could be surface rust under the body, and the ancient tires aired up and held air .. the gears shifted easily, and the empty radiator did not look damaged.. several rims are good to go.. there is no rear seat, but the metal front seats are not destroyed completely. the Jeep still has the oil bath air filter, and there are some patches over a couple of bad spots...
I pray the engine can be made to run without too much trouble and expense, that it is not cracked .. I am pumped up about this development.

All of these sites will have parts sources that could be used for pre-AMC Jeeps. What you want to do to it will depend a lot on how you want to use it. I'm all for keeping them light but that doesn't preclude a V6 or V8, a lot of which are or can be made lighter than the stock 134. You can have light and nimble and still have modern brakes, steering, and power.

I am going to work on getting that 47 model and begin a slow restoration of it, as I am mostly fine with the look and the simplicity of the old models.. I am not the kind of guy that is completely purist, but that could happen as well...it depends on if the purist approach leaves one with a reliable, and functional jeep; or whether it costs a bunch of cash and leaves you with a classic but functionally inadequate jeep.
I am going to research all the available sites as soon as I get my hands on the jeep. But will start with some source to know what to look for and whether a certain model year or string of years is obviously a less desirable jeep than others.
I don't intend to drop a monster engine into it, I would do that with the TJ in a second, but the CJ idea is important to me to be that little green jeep four cylinder narrow tires, etc. the idea just intrigues me.

That is an all-military forum, great source of info.
Be advised some there are purists and don't have much patience for anything but accurate restoration. Of course there are other more tolerant folks too.
Another good source is the flatfender forum at earlycj5.net.
Here you will find a good mix of guys doing restoration and resto-mod, improving the factory offerings with better and safer components while keeping mostly stock appearance. Some military guys there, but not many.
Each of these sites will have sources for parts. All parts are available one way or another...

is it true that CJ parts are easy to find ? different sources for difft results?
new jeeper with an O.D. green CJ fetish to satisfy, want to restore a 47 to used military condition, with rag top, keeping it light and lower powered, with skinny tires, preferably military gripped cookie cutters.
do I source vintage military restoration differently than upgrading to modern parts and V8's etc.?
I really want it light simple and similar to the pre historic jeeps my neanderthal uncles surely rode in.
I am just learning this aspect of jeeping.. have a tj now, and love it.. but am thinking of adding this little guy and splitting duties, etc.
