I'm one of those OCD guys who likes to keep their stuff clean and perfect. However, I do love to get out on the trials. A couple months ago I got my 2013 JKU (paid cash) and boy was I conflicted about wheeling my first brand new vehicle in many years. I love to be out on the trails, but every time all I could think of was f'ing up my $32k investment… that's also my daily driver. Even with that I still like to crawl over a rock or two.
Here's a little story about our first time out in the JKU with a group.

I decided that at least for now, I can stay away from some of the more hardcore trails and still enjoy my Jeep. In fact, we've found some really nice areas that are off road but pretty mild. The roads and trails takes us by swimming holes, waterfalls, streams, water crossings and other beautiful scenery. Very relaxing and lots of photo ops.
Pop the top and the doors and go exploring. You can have just as much fun (for me anyway) as doing some of the more hardcore trails. Heck, I don't even have to go off road at all to enjoy my Jeep. Sometimes we just pile in, peel the top back and see where the country roads lead us. You'd be surprised how much cool stuff you can find and fun people you meet along the way.
A Jeep can be anything you want.

|ADee1||Newbie question. Do the Ace Sliders really protect against A-holes with shopping carts, and slamming doors into your rig, as well as protect while you're off road?|

I don't even have 1000 miles on my JKUR and I've managed to scuff up all of my factory skids and even scuffed the exhaust on the drivers side up front...
I do want to ask, I scraped that metal bar that connects to each side of the frame ( left to right). Is that ok? It's about where the drivers and passenger seats are.

They are not scratches, they are character. Be smart about where you go, do you research in advance, learn how to use a buffer and compound.
Oh and listen to baytownbert...particularly liked the bring looper shears

|WatchThis!||I defiantly don't share the OPs mind set. My jeep was on its side in two months and now it does not have one piece of sheet metal that is not bent (well the doors are still good at least) and you can't find a 2 square inch spot that does not have a scratch.|

I just bought a 2007 X. PO lifted 4" with nice new 35" Duratrax on 17" rims.
Thankfully, he put a few scratches on her and a nice ding in the cowl.
I didn't hesitate to run through 4' deep mud hole and scrape a few cypress branches.
I washed her after and she looks just as gorgeous as the day I bought her!

|PAPADOC||I had the pleasure of taking my rig out for her maiden run on some pretty awesome trails near Algonquin National Park. I have put a ton of hands on work into my jeep as well, so with all the tree's and rocks and creeks, I can honestly say that I WASN'T EVEN THINKING ABOUT IT!!! Lol...seriously it was fricken brilliant! I had never been...I went wheelin with just my wife, and she sh*t her pants laughing and having a blast the whole time. You now own a Jeep...just go for it bro. I suggest taking the doors off whenever possible too. Rain or shine.|

The second week after getting my jeep I went out with with a friend on some trails I mapped in google earth. All was well until we got far into one of the sections and it turned into a narrow wash with creosote bushes lining each side. The bushes were maybe a couple feet apart from each other on opposing banks. I thought it would be over in a few feet, after a couple miles it was too late to turn around (and no room) so onward. This lasted a whole and after getting passed it I stopped and could tell my buddy was pi**ed off (89 4runner) but held back as he know I was fuming. But I cooled down and we finished the day. I ended up with a years supply of Az pin striping and am in no way happy about that, but it's going to happen unless you mall crawl. A couple weeks later I put the doors and top back on and had to go on another tight run so the pin striping would sorta match!
I've also learned that enjoying the weather, even if it's just windows down and not top and doors off, means lots of dust buildup inside. Especially here in the southwest. This part really does annoy me. I like a clean interior. After the above mentioned bush whacking, I probably had 20 lbs of live creatures and plant material to remove. Still find twigs and such from that day.
Here she is stock (with ace sliders of course) going through Three Feathers on the Chiva Falls trail. This is about a month after I bought her.

I bought a 2014 JKUR 32 days ago, on day 22 this happend. Attachment 415769 I bought it so I could enjoy it and take it off road. I am not saying I am happy about it, but it is what it is. I of course got ace sliders the next week to keep the other doors safer. I sure wish I invested 10 days before I did. KCCO
It started to rain and I slid right into a rock, scratched my door, rubicon sliders and the rear fender.

I hate to be negative about this post because I understand the spirit in which the OP posted it. *BUT* I'm going to lose it if I'm on a trail, looking to go up, over, or through something and one more time, the guy in front of me says "Well, it's my daily driver..." IT'S MY DAILY DRIVER TOO!!! If you are THAT paranoid about messing up your Jeep then why are you out there? Why push your Jeep to the absolute limit and then start hedging and holding people up while you decide if your rig can make it any further without scratches?. There are plenty of trails that my Jeep can't handle, but I stay off of those trails. I don't ride on them as far as I can go and then start saying "I don't know guys... This is my daily driver." Maybe I'm way off base on this one, but dammit. It seems like this happens this every weekend and I just feel like screaming when I hear it.

|C.L.||It's amazing how fast your level of concern will change. When i crumpled my first fender into a tree i felt sick for half the day. When i recently crumpled the other fender into a tree (jumped right out infront of me, i swear), i though "Oh good, now they match!"...|

|Gunner||If your OCD then thats just how your wired. But you can still have a lot of fun and never do anything that a great detail can't fix. Glad you bought a Jeep and hope your having fun in it. Mine got striped the 3rd day off the showroom floor.|

The dings I despise are the idiots who can't park between two lines in a parking lot and sort of miss that huge hunk of metal sitting next to them when they open their doors/back out/etc-now THOSE tick me off.|

It's your jeep, do as you wish. If you want to keep it dent and scratch free for a while go for it. Simply taking the top off gives you that great Jeep feel. If you're still not satisfied take off the doors

|im_justin_sane||I got my white JK Sahara about a month and a half ago. I have literally been out wiping off bug splats and random dirty spots almost daily, trying to keep her absolutely spotless. Now, with the weather finally turning cooler (I'm in N Tx), this weekend I'm considering busting her cherry and heading up to the Red River area and take her off road into the river basin (it's dry as a bone) and do some camping and metal detecting. Sand, random mud, and scrubby mesquite trees lie ahead. And beer around a campfire. Can't beat that.|

I feel the same, if I knew then I'd order bare metal too.
I put 33's on my Jeep right away and went wheeling. First trip out drove over a broken log and I must have hit it just right and it broke and thumped the driver side rocker. No metal damage but did put a nice scuff in the paint. Came home and ordered the Ace Rock Sliders that night. Paint has a couple hairline scratches in it, but it seems the paint can take a pretty good beating before it shows scratches. I still don't like hearing that squeak of branches dragging down the body but it doesn't bother me like it used to. I avoid it if possible.
Stock suspension and 33's I was still dragging my skids around the whole day. 2.5" later that's not as much of a problem.

|rgnbull1227||I am the exact same way. Kevlar paint was the #n Priority 1 Mod for us. Look into a Kevlar paint. Have a 2013 with 600 miles now and been offroad 5 times. Branches trees all running down the sides. Not a single scratch.|
