I guess I've been reading the posts where people were locking the axle and then upgrading the shafts, that's what probably confused me in thinking I needed chromoly shafts. I see those posts a lot and just instantly though I would need chromoly shafts for 35's. Thanks for straightening that out for me.
I'm not really planning on locking it until way far in the future. I'll probably take it out first and then see what I need from there.
I was about to ask what gearing I should be at running with 35's but it looks like someone asked that question and you answered that. Looks like I'm right where I should be.

|Jerry Bransford||Assuming your transmission is the 5-speed manual, 4.88 is ideal for 35" tires. If you have the 3-speed automatic, 4.56 would be the right choice.|

|Jerry Bransford||Your front Dana 30 uses 27 spline axle shafts, your rear Dana 44 has 30 spline axle shafts. You're good to go for 35" tires so far as the strengths of those axles go. Alloy/chromolly shafts are not usually "needed" until a locker is installed into the axle.|

How far can I get on 35's with 28 Spline?
Well, found out today that I don't have the size spline I thought I had and that I actually have 28 spline axle shafts.
I'm running a Dana 30/44 Combo (28 spline shafts in the D30, not sure what is in the D44 because I haven't had to break it down yet).
The Jeep came with 35 inch tires on it so I'm wanting to know how far I can get continuing running them with 28 splines. Am I going to snap shafts as soon as I go offroading or what? How far can I go before I'm pushing it?
I just had the front axle partially rebuilt (right axle shaft, carrier and bearings) so I'm pretty pissed I didn't know this. Otherwise I would have just had them upgrade everything.
I know that I need to be running chromoly axle shafts or at least 35 spline shafts for 35's so that's why I'm asking about my current set up.
Ton's may be in my not so distant future because that will be the cheaper route compared to beefing up this axle combo (at least I think).
